This is such a serene property. It was clean, quiet, and so relaxing. We even got to see about 20 deer through the window. It’s not super close to a lot of restaurants but definitely a restful getaway!

Great location on quiet side of MDI. Enjoyed it as a wonderful base home to enjoy all Acadia and MDI had to offer. Kitchen well stocked, house comfortable and quiet. Nice to have large garage to store bikes! Pics and listing accurate and would definitely stay again if we found ourselves back in Maine.

Lovely Home

Quiet setting in the woods. Home is spacious with everything you need for cooking your own meals. Home is close to town and only 30 minutes to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. If we come back to this area we would book it again.

Stepping Stone is a beautifully appointed home. It was a very comfortable place for my cousins and I to spend a few days on MDI. Out of the way, but within 20-30 minutes of anything we wanted to do.

Better than advertised!

We really enjoyed our week at Stepping Stone. The entire property was clean, comfortable and welcoming. The home is well appointed and maintained with care. The kitchen is roomy and equipped with everything needed for preparing meals and getting ready for your day. One of the highlights of our stay was the opportunity to meet our host Amy. We definitely recommend this property on the quiet side of Mt. Desert Island.

Lovely home on MDI

Our first trip to the Acadia National Park area in Maine was even better due to the incredible home we booked. The location was perfect, the house had everything we needed for our week. The house is tucked in to a wonderful wooded neighborhood, close to Seawall beach and the magic of nature. After long days of hiking it was so nice to come back our home and relax outside at the fire pit and watch the deer, red squirrels, and incredible numbers of birds come and go. We definitely will stay here again! Thanks Amy, your home exceeded our expectations.

Great stay

We had a great time on Acadia thanks to Amy. The place was spotless and perfect. It's off the beaten path, quiet and peaceful. We had deer in the yard every day, enjoyed the fire pit and outdoor grill. There is a restaurant next door that we did not try but has great reviews as well as a bakery that's a bit hard to find but looked really good too. Amy made check-in and check-out seamless and very easy. Will come back.

Cutest place ever!

The interior design was absolutely adorable. The outside space was well used and well loved by us! Lots of deer also lots of neighborhood cats lol Amy was amazing to work with. There were three or four discrepancies between the vrbo listing and the binder but nothing at all that was an unreasonable request. Very very simple check out instructions. absolutely loved it. Only mentioning it so you are not surprised! Highly recommend!

Disappointing and misrepresented

Full disclosure, we were charged for damage to the bottom of a door that was not damaged during our visit. If you stay absolutely document the condition at arrival and inform VRBO of any detail. The unit was advertised as air conditioned. There is a single window unit in the dining area which was not shown on the VRBO pictures leading you to believe that it had central air. The rest of the unit relied on open windows to cool which was insufficient. The house was clean except for a very moldy front loader washer and ants, The house felt unsafe. The garage doors were not latched to openers and could just be lifted up at any time. The door from the garage to the house could be locked but no key to it. The house itself was unlocked on arrival and we were told to leave unlocked upon exit. Additionally, the construction is obviously unprofessionally performed. This evidenced by the visible framing in the garage was not to code, poorly painted cabinets, and unpainted wood filler in the bathroom trim. The location is advertised as in close proximity to Acadia NP. In reality there is a small camp ground and rocky beach that is close but the bulk of the park and Bar Harbor is over 30 minutes drive away.

The Perfect Stay

This was my in-laws’ first trip to Maine and we wanted the experience to be as cozy and enjoyable as possible. This beautiful home was the perfect place for us to stay. The kitchen is huge and well-stocked with all the tools we needed to prepare several meals during our stay. The beds are comfortable and having two bathrooms was a huge time saver. Oh, and laundry! That was great. We were all able to pack a little less since we knew we could do a load. The living room is very welcoming and we enjoyed eating our meals at the dining table. At night, the fire pit was peaceful with the accompanying trickle from the frog pond to help us wind down from a busy day of exploring. The location down the street from the Seawall is perfect. My husband and I enjoyed running along it each morning, and one evening we took a sunset stroll with my in-laws as well. It was gorgeous. The proximity to Bar Harbor is great. It’s not too close that you’re in the busy mix but close enough that it’s truly just a short drive. And the drive is so nice: lots of handy little shops along the way as well as scenic. Our dog also loved playing fetch out in the yard. It was the perfect stay and we’ll definitely be booking again. I’d love to bring my parents next!

Great, private location

Loved our family vacation and we were so happy to bring our pup along so she could join us. The house was the perfect size for our family of 4, very cozy and off the main road so we didn't worry about having our dog off leash while we relaxed by the fire pit. The house was incredibly clean, and we didn't need to bring anything like sheets/towels so that made our trip a bit easy. There were a few issues (broken bottom shelf in fridge, screen door that did not close/latch and the kitchen lights were like a strobe light if you had them on to the highest level but those things were very minor. We enjoyed the close proximity to the Quiet Side of the island activities - Wonderland and Seawall were great little hikes and we enjoyed our hike at Long Pond and fishing at Echo Lake, as well as the takeout meals from Charlotte's and our dinner at Beal's which was fantastic. Just a 30 minute easy drive to Bar Harbor and hikes on that busier side of the island. This is the best location for a quiet vacation! One tip: bring food from home if you plan to cook at all. The grocery store lines are very long and the locals are not too happy about the invasion of the summer vacationers and they are pretty vocal about their disgust while in line. Food prices are very high as well and veggie selection is not great. Next time we will surely pack more food to bring to lessen the stress!

This is a lovely house on a very secluded, wooded road. Clean, warm, just as advertised. We loved it. Deer everywhere and close to ocean and hiking trails. The host, Amy, was immediately responsive to messages. Maine is beautiful - we will be back. Highly recommended.

Amy’s place was the perfect relaxing spot on the quiet side of Acadia. We loved the comfy beds and proximity to Wonderland Trail, Bass Lighthouse, and Charlotte’s lobster pound. Across from Charlotte’s was a perfect spot to watch the sunrise over the water, away from the Cadillac Mountain crowds.

I stayed at Stepping Stone last year and decided to stay for two weeks this year. The house is in a quiet neighborhood with deer frequently visiting. It’s a very clean and comfortable home. The kitchen is very well equipped for cooking or there are local places to eat out. There is a fire pit conveniently located just off the deck for roasting marshmallows. I love the Southwest Harbor location and I would definitely stay at Amy’s home again!

Good clean and functional space. Location is solid for getting into SW Harbor and accessing other areas on that part of MDI. Interesting neighborhood with what appears to be combination of seasonal cottages, year round residences and camp sites. Tons of deer everywhere in this specific part of MDI. Good sized new grill works well and kitchen has updates appliances and all the tools needed to cook just about anything. Garage space is helpful for gear/equipment, bikes and watercraft. Excellent communication from host. Definitely a very solid option for a family of four at a reasonable price point for two bedroom, two bath accommodations during MDI peak season.
