The space
The home was built by a family from Latvia. In 1941, Vladislavs built a few houses on the street and planted the catalpa, oak, tulip poplar, and linden trees still on the property. Latvia is known for their intricate patterns in textile and design, along with their woodwork. The space reflects this with beautiful refinished original hardwood floors. Poplar trim around the windows pays homage both to Latvian craftsmanship and to the Indiana state tree. Butcherblock countertops, tile floors, art and a custom-painted Latvian textile pattern adorn the home. The landscape was designed by Indy Gardens and features entirely native or recycled plantings.
The home is powered by renewable energies. 5% of all proceeds from The Latvia House go to the Latvian Community Center in Indianapolis. Local artists, designers, carpenters, cleaners, and landscapers were hired and paid a livable wage for their work.
Guest access
The domain is yours! You can see the work and thought put into every step of the property - please conduct yourself respectfully.
Note: as noted on the door, the basement is for owners only. Basement access is not permitted to guests.
Other things to note
No smoking or pets at the house. If you smoke cigarettes/cigars or will be bringing your pet with you, please look for other AirBnBs.
Please be conscientious with your use of scents (cologne, perfume, external cleaning products) - the house has an air filtration system and we use hypoallergenic products for EVERYTHING. We ask you use our cleaning products when needed.
This is out of respect for our guests who are sensitive to smell. I am sensitive to smells myself, so please conduct yourself with respect for other people who will be using the property.
