Unique, Charming Cottage on Penobscot Bay - Gorgeous Views!
This cottage is in a calm and peaceful location in the unique village of Bayside, with incredible views of the Penobscot Bay. Sit on the large covered porch and spot seals and porpoise, looking across to the island of Islesboro. With shining, original hardwood floors, a river rock fireplace, leaded glass windows, and a charming birch wood stair case railing, this cottage is one of a kind, roomy and comfortable, while still creating an ambience that feels straight out of history. This cottage was built in 1899 and retains much of the original charm while having all the comforts of the modern age. There is so much to do in the area: walk down Shore Road along the sea, with it's cathedral-like canopy of trees overhead; eat at Young's Lobster Pound at the outdoor picnic tables--BYOB!!--for some of the best lobsters Maine has to offer; head down to the lovely little pier only a three minute walk away and dive into the refreshing Atlantic ocean. Explore, enjoy, and relax!

If you're looking for a genuine Maine vibe, this is the place to stay! The cottage is quirky and cozy with incredible views and ideal location. The bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen are well furnished and Suzanne is a considerate and responsive host. We will be back!
We loved everything about this stay! Charming, quaint and fit our needs perfectly. What a wonderful throwback in time. Our favorite thing was sitting on the back porch with friends and family enjoying the views! Thank you much to our lovely hosts!
We had a lovely week long stay at the cabin. It's an old house with some charm that reminded us of family cabins from childhood. It had what we needed for our stay, including lots of extra bedding, towels, and enough in the kitchen, including well kept cast iron pans. The cabin has no AC, but the weather was perfect during our stay, so it cooled off plenty at night. The views are much better than the photos let on - great from the dining room, back porch, and out the small bedroom windows. We'd definitely stay again if we're in the area.
This was the perfect place to enjoy the beauty of Maine! We explored all the areas from Acadia National Park to Portland and points beyond. The home is cozy, clean, comfortable and charming. The ocean view is fantastic. Treasures & art were displayed and curated exquisitely, making this a very special VRBO. The hosts were great communicators. Our only negative is that we couldn’t stay longer! Thank you Ethan & Suzanne.
We had great stay. Owners very attentive to our needs.
My wife and I loved the information sheet provided prior to arrival with their top pick for sightseeing and dining.
We have already booked a return visit in September!
Thanks for working with us!
The cottage is delightful, with many quirky features that make it much more appealing than a newer property is likely to be. We appreciated the small details including lots of reading lights! And, last but not least, the view if the bay is fantastic.
S taying in a cottage built in 1899 was wonderful. The covered porch on the Penobscot Bay was sublime all times of the day. Hearing loons and seeing the sun rise from my bed was very special. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything that we needed. Located only minutes from Belfast and Camden (20 min.). Everyday I walked the private beach at low tide with my small dog, which he loved. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. I felt that we really were able to get away from it all and loved the cottage for it's charm.
The best word to capture the Norman Cottage is magical. Step through the door and be transported to your favorite novel, your best movie, the most perfect day you ever had. That was what we experienced. Waking up to the lions outside our window, sitting on the porch, gathered around the table breaking bread. What happy memories we made. Houses have a feeling and this one was magical.
We were there in early October (3 seniors) and enjoyed the outdoor porch (with layers on) but also spent a lot of time in the dining room/enclosed porch which has beautiful views of Penobscot Bay. The cottage has all the modern amenities (microwave, dishwasher, washer & dryer) but has old-world cottage charm (steep stairs with natural wood railings, lots of paneling, bedrooms tucked under the eaves). One of us had mobility issues so the outside entrance (rocky steps) and inside stairs were challenging. There were MANY great books on the various bookshelves. Nearby Belfast has wonderful restaurants. Must Be Nice Lobster, only open 3 days, is run by a lobsterwoman who has terrific lobstah rolls.
We highly recommend this cottage!
The house is charming and original in most respects. The view is excellent, and mesmerizing. Did not discover the basement with washer/dryer until we were leaving, but clearly the owners have spent time updating the systems without ruining the authenticity of the place. The only knock would be the beds, but we have our aches and pains and are not the best bed-testers. No doubt most people would be fine with them. The nearby village of Bayside is interesting and it would be fun to bring a RIB or other inflatable up to cruise around the area in. Certainly easy kayaking as well. If you are looking for the Maine experience, this cottage would not disappoint. Belfast is around the corner, as is Lincolnville and Camden. And the owners or managers are wonderful.
