Our group of three couples, all seasoned travelers who've stayed in vacation rentals worldwide, unanimously agreed this property is the most thoughtfully designed we've ever encountered. Every attention to detail surpassed our expectations, making our stay truly exceptional. For C&O cyclists, the location simply cannot be beat. After a long day on the trail, stopping at this impeccably clean and welcoming space was a dream. The beds and linens were incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night, and the living areas invited us to relax and unwind together. The downstairs hangout space was a fantastic bonus, providing a perfect spot for our group to spend quality time together, sharing stories and laughs. The breakfast items and their presentation were top-notch, adding another layer of convenience for through-cyclists. We collectively wished we had more time to spend at this first-class vacation rental and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an unparalleled experience!

1878 RiverRun B&B was perfect for our group of 6 bicyclists and 1 support vehicle to stay a night in Hancock while biking from Pittsburgh - DC on the GAP and C&O trails. The B&B was basically right on the trail which was perfect for our group. We rented the entire home so we had plenty of space for our group to spread out. The RiverRun B&B was our favorite stay of 6 stays on the trip. It is newly renovated and clean, beautiful and spacious. Each bedroom had their own ensuite bathroom which was a welcome change from sharing bathrooms at other locations. There was an abundance of food on hand on arrival from back up supplies to a huge variety of self-serve breakfast foods. The beds were super comfortable -- we may have had our best night's sleep here! And, as a bonus, there was an outdoor "shed" to lock up (and charge) bikes. The views from the B&B were very scenic. Queli (Kelly) was very responsive and great to deal with. I highly recommend staying here -- either renting the whole house or one of the rooms.

Hey there! I’m a proud mama of three and a lover of the great outdoors—especially if it involves sand between my toes and a salty breeze. My pack includes three playful dogs, so we're always up for an adventure! Whether you're here for relaxation or exploring, we know how to make the most of it. I believe in fun, family, and a bit of spontaneity. Looking forward to sharing our space with you!

Why they chose this property

Why We Chose Hancock—and Why You'll Love It Too

We chose Hancock because it’s a hidden gem that offers the perfect mix of small-town charm, outdoor adventure, and rich history. Nestled along the Potomac River and C&O Canal Towpath, it’s a dream for trail lovers, history buffs, and anyone looking to relax in nature.

As Maryland’s official Trail Town, Hancock is right on the C&O Canal and the Western Maryland Rail Trail—ideal for biking, hiking, and scenic walks. The town’s peaceful vibe and riverside views make it a favorite stop for riders traveling between Pittsburgh and DC.

We love the area's deep history—dating back to the 1700s—including visits from George Washington and the town’s growth around the canal. Today, you can explore local museums, the nearby Paw Paw Tunnel, or take a short drive to Antietam Battlefield.

Beyond the trails, there’s plenty to enjoy: pick up fresh treats at the Blue Goose Market, browse the antique mall, or relax in the mineral springs of nearby Berkeley Springs. The mix of nature, history, and local flavor makes Hancock truly special.

Whether you're stopping in for a night on the trail or staying longer to explore the region, we think you'll find the same peace and charm here that made us fall in love with it.

What makes this property unique

River Run is a charming historic home located at 7 Taney Street in Hancock, Maryland—just steps from the C&O Canal Towpath and Western Maryland Rail Trail. Originally built in 1878, the property was carefully restored in 2008 and received awards for historic preservation. Today, it offers a unique blend of 19th-century character and modern comfort.

From original hardwood floors to period details throughout, River Run retains the warmth and craftsmanship of its past while providing a cozy, inviting space for short-term stays. Guests love the peaceful vibe, walkable location, and connection to nature and history.

Whether you're biking the trail, exploring local history, or simply enjoying a quiet getaway, River Run is perfectly situated for your stay. It’s within walking distance to the Potomac River, downtown shops, and local dining, with easy access to outdoor adventures and nearby attractions like Berkeley Springs, the Paw Paw Tunnel, and Fort Frederick.

River Run offers more than just a place to sleep—it’s a comfortable, character-filled home base in one of Maryland’s most scenic and historic small towns.
