Calm & Spacious Cottage in Barnes Village SW13, 30 Minutes from Downtown London
Luxurious and comfortable, come and enjoy London from our house. With a village feel in the city, the location has easy transport links to London Underground or Railway Services. A tube or train will take you to central London in just 20 minutes!
The house dates back to the early 1900s and it's 'boomerang' layout and unique spiral staircase give it a special look and added space - great for kids and adults alike. It retains some original features, such as the fireplace. It is conveniently tucked away down Castelnau row footpath and is the biggest of 7 cottages, in this very calm spot. The house sleeps 5 adults comfortably.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything required to do some serious cooking if you're up for it! There is also a utility room with separate washer and dryer machines for laundry.
There are a couple of great cafes within 2 minutes walking distance of the house: Sips & Bites (Italian) and Spoonful (French). There is also a greengrocer and natural foods merchant on the same row of shops. I highly recommend PostBox Indian restaurant and The Bridge pub.
In Barnes village, there are many restaurants to choose from. Don't miss the Olympic Cafe and Cinema, and Rick Stein fish restaurant, a little further up in Sheen.
Barnes is a very coveted area in SW London, there is a large amount of nature accessible nearby - the river Thames (3 minutes walk), the Leg-O-Mutton nature reserve (3 minutes walk), Barnes Common and Barnes Pond (5 minutes bus ride) and the London Wetlands Centre (www.wwt.org.uk) a wetlands reserve for wildfowl and birds (5 minutes bus ride or 20 minutes walk). On the subject of nature, the house is only 15 minutes drive away from Royal Kew Gardens (www.kew.org), a must for any lover of plants!
For those looking to do shopping, the Wesfield shopping centre is just North of Hammersmith on the other side of the river Thames (www.westfield.com). There are also world famous museums located nearby in South Kensington: The Natural History Museum (www.nhm.ac.uk), The Science Museum (www.sciencemuseum.org.uk) and The Victoria and Albert Museum (www.vam.ac.uk).

We had some initial problems as the property had been left empty for a while with quite a bit of water damage and the roof needed repair, so walls were damp. Things improved after roofers came and heating was on for a few days.

Dear Victoria
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
The roof damage due to exceptional rainfall was unfortunate but it's always a pleasure to receive fair and considerate guests such as you.
You're always welcome :-)
Our host was excellent, as he responded quickly to any and all questions I sent. The description provided in the listing is spot on. It was a wonderful home for our family of 4, with plenty of food and shopping within walking distance. There was breakfast food available in the home upon our arrival, and the bed was very comfortable. Having been to London multiple times, this was our favorite home to stay in by far. The Tube is an easy 10 minute walk from the home. I have nothing but positive comments to say! 10 out of 10 stars!
We booked this property for a visit to Wimbledon, and it was an excellent choice. It’s in a great location and is easily walkable to the foot bridge and a few nice restaurants, and had great access to Uber and local busses. The house was spacious and felt comfortable to live in. It was exactly as advertised and we would absolutely book it again.
This place is a mixed bag. The location is second to none for Barnes--at the top of Castelnau Road within easy walking distance of Hammersmith station. It is affordable compared to other similar sized places in London. The host was attentive and very prompt in responding. The property is not in the best of shape--the bathrooms have old fixtures, bad water pressure and the bedroom doors are flimsy. It smelled of damp when we got there too which improved as the heating was put on. I hesitate to be critical because of the great host. If a bit of were put toward upgrading the bathrooms I would give it high marks.
The living area is lovely and overall it was a comfortable stay. The towels/linens could do with replacement and the place could use a nice dusting to remove cobwebs, but it was generally good.
A very spacious apartment in a great location. Just a short 20min walk to the Hammersmith tube station as well as lots of shops and eating places. Kitchen was well equipped and beds were very comfortable.
Comfortable home south of the Thames. Just a note: if you are unable to use public transportation Uber rides to central London are pricey because the the Hammersmith Bridge, although very close by, is only open to pedestrian traffic, Would recommend for families with teens.
The host Farid, is probably the best communicator and helpful person you will find. The place is tucked away and quiet. It has good access to get into central London an the local area of Barns and Hammersmith has lots to do and some great bars and restaurants.
The property was very well-maintained and taken care of. It is quiet and away from noise. We enjoyed our stay. There would return is coming back to London.

This was a real gem in a great spot in Barnes. It felt like a home away from home and we stayed here twice in our recent trip to London. Our host was the best and we will be recommending this place to all our friends. We will be back.
We loved this place. There is plenty of room for a small group to sleep and a dining room table and living room where they can gather to eat, talk or play games. Its also a great spot to stay in London without being in the busy center of the city. Easily within walking distance to buses or the tube.

About the host
Hosted by Farid Bennis
Hi! My name is Farid, I grew up in London, UK and I now live in Quebec City - the capital Quebec province - Canada.
I speak English, French and Spanish and I love to communicate with my guests. I've been a host since 2014 and the vast majority of the time it is a great pleasure to welcome wonderful people and families from all over the world :-)
Why they chose this property
Although I no longer live there, I have very fond memories of the house since I spent my final school years, and university years living there. Since I grew up here, I know Barnes very well and I love it when guests ask for my advice about the village and the surroundings.
I must admit, I'm not an expert on London, but then again, who is?! We welcome your visit to find out more...
What makes this property unique
The house is well insulated and stays relatively cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The best thing about it is the 10 minute walk across Hammersmith Bridge. The river is beautiful to cross by foot!
