Sweet Retreat on a Tidal Estuary near Popham Beach ~ The Sam Day Hill House
In Phippsburg's historic Parker Head neighborhood, the Sam Day Hill House sits on an open hill surrounded by 3.5 wooded acres. Overlooking the Kennebec Estuary, it's a birder's paradise. The wrap-around porch is fully screened in the spring and summer (we remove the screens in the fall for even better views of the bird migrations.)
If you ever want to leave this sweet spot, the Sam Day Hill House is close to beaches, trails, lobster rolls on the water, boat launches, lighthouses, and all things Maine. Walk Popham Beach at low tide, hike to the uncrowded Seawall Beach, wander through Fort Popham’s granite remains, cruise to lighthouses with the Maine Maritime Museum, grab provisions at the cool shops in Bath’s historic downtown (20 minutes up the road,) ...and come home to our peaceful retreat. The moment you head up the winding driveway you'll know why this is our fairytale home come true.

About the host
Hosted by Steph Dunn
Rob and I met a year ago, each of us with homes along Maine's Kennebec River waterway, both of us happiest when on the water. After surfing nearby last fall, I told Rob I wanted to buy a house in Phippsburg. He had always wanted a house near Popham Beach and sent me a link to the Sam Day Hill House. We drove there that day, made an offer the next, and moved in during a snowstorm in December 2025.
Why they chose this property
If you love the Maine coast, the meandering roads, the fresh seafood, seeing eagles and osprey and seals, you probably already know why we love Phippsburg. If you've been to Popham Beach or Seawall Beach or Reid State Park you know why they are our favorite beaches in New England, and off-season our favorite beaches in the world. Phippsburg is a wildly beautiful peninsula, and the historic Parker Head neighborhood where the Sam Day Hill House sits includes a cute lil farm stand, the town library and museum, a welcoming church with water views, The 1774 Inn which hosts weddings and barn suppers, sweet cottages perched on granite ledge, a bakery around the corner, boats on land and in the water that surrounds.
What makes this property unique
Though we are not far from the pavement that is Parker Head Rd, the Sam Day Hill House is privately situated on an uncrowded dirt road. We love Popham Beach, but we also love serenity.... and paddling around the Kennebec Estuary, hiking Phippsburg's many trails, and coming home to our quiet porch (well, the birds are pretty loud.)
