About this property

Gualala 1BR + loft home with partial ocean views — walk to town

Summary:

Morning fog lifts to reveal blue Pacific horizons from this in-town Gualala home backed by a seasonal creek. A queen bedroom plus a queen loft sleep 4, with a gas fireplace, two decks, and a gas grill for afternoon barbecues. Walk half a mile to Trinks Cafe and Surf Market; Cooks Beach is under two miles north.

The Space:

A walkable, in-town location meets a tranquil country setting at this inviting Gualala home, an escape with blue-water views of the Pacific Ocean. In this secluded coastal town on the rugged Northern California coast, you'll enjoy a quiet piece of property surrounded by wind-blown cypress and lush vegetation, backing up to a seasonal creek.

The interior makes generous use of natural wood, including beamed ceilings, richly hued walls, and a staircase hand-crafted in the Craftsman style.

When the sun is shining on the coast, walk to the bluff at Robinson Gulch, light the gas grill for an afternoon barbecue, or simply relax in the fresh air in the yard or on one of the two decks with seasonal views of the creek. And when the fog rolls in, retreat indoors to toss the provided beach towels in the washer/dryer, warm up by the gas fireplace, and watch a DVD or stream a favorite on the Smart TV. Glennen Beach and Cooks Beach are both less than two miles north, and half a mile puts you in the heart of town — Four-Eyed Frog Books, Trinks Cafe, and Surf Market with its weekend barbecues. For an easy outing, drive three miles north to Anchor Bay's small beach, or continue up the coast to the Point Arena Lighthouse for one of the best sunset views on this stretch of Highway 1.

KITCHEN & DINING

Craft your favorite meals in the fully equipped kitchen, complete with dishwasher for easy cleanup. With seating for the whole group, mealtimes become part of the experience.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS

A queen bedroom on the main level plus a loft-style room upstairs with a second queen — both with access to an outdoor deck. Sleeps 4 guests.

PROPERTY AMENITIES

-- 1 bedroom + queen loft, 2 baths, sleeps 4

-- Gas fireplace

-- Two decks with seasonal creek views

-- Gas grill

-- Washer and dryer (beach towels provided)

-- Four beach chairs and beach towels

-- WiFi and Smart TV

Guest Access:

This is your private retreat for the duration of your stay -- full run of the house. Driveway parking is available at the property. Detailed check-in instructions, including the door code, will be provided prior to your arrival.

The Neighborhood:

You'll be only half a mile from the heart of town, allowing you to easily walk to such local favorites as Four-Eyed Frog Books, Trinks Cafe, and the Surf Market with its fantastic weekend barbecues. Trails lead from your door to the bluffs, beaches, and through the forest.

Getting Around:

This home sits just north of downtown Gualala, between Highway 1 and the ocean — about 2.5 hours from San Francisco via Highway 101 to Highway 1. For a scenic drive, head north to the town of Anchor Bay (three miles) and on to the Point Arena Lighthouse. Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport (STS) is roughly 90 minutes away, and a car is essential on this coast.

Other Things to Note:

Four beach chairs (in the bench on the deck) and beach towels

Guests must have their own accounts for streaming services

Keep your eyes on the horizon from December to April -- gray whales migrate just offshore, and this property has a front-row seat. Visit in spring for wildflower season -- the hills above Gualala and the river trails burst with lupine and California poppies. June through September brings the warmest weather. Morning fog is part of the charm -- it usually clears to reveal blue skies.

Cell service can be spotty along the coast. The home has WiFi for staying connected.

Our family loved staying here! The birds in the green belt behind the house were fun to watch and wake up to, the ocean view from the house and in the neighborhood was beautiful, and the art in the house was fun to look at. The house was comfortable and had everything we needed and was close to stores, restaurants, shops, and galleries.

Gualala-hidden gem of the NorCal coast

Home was stylish, clean, and easy to find, very close to town. It provided a great base for our Mendocino County adventures-a welcome and inviting space after a long day exploring, hiking and kayaking.

Voila! It’s Gualala… and it’s fabulous

Easily one of the most comfortable, cozy yet rustic properties I could have rented. The house was clean, well-appointed and simply perfect for a mid-week romantic getaway.

The home was equipped with everything needed for our stay. The ocean views were just beautiful! We visited area beaches and walked many trails. Gualala is a very relaxing place to stay and unwind. We hung out a lot at the property as well, reading, cooking, and watching sunsets. A perfect place for our 35th anniversary trip! Everything was just seamless with the host, access, etc. Thank you for a great home.

A true delight!

We thoroughly enjoyed this home -- beautiful touches (especially the art!!!), super clean, and the most stocked kitchen shelves we've ever seen in a rental unit, in terms of spices, teas, sugar...

Felt deceived by the Ad as it stated the per day and total price as “all fees included “ and then after I booked and paid it I got another 10% separate charge from VRBO the next day. The ad should have made that clear that there will be an additional fee coming the next day from VRBO. - would have liked a larger 3 person couch as the love seat is too small with only one additional comfortable chair.-would have appreciated a later check out than 10am-Really loved the house and appreciated the owner Dr Richard and learning about his life

Hi George, Thank you for your feedback. We're so glad to hear you loved the home and enjoyed learning about Dr. Richard's story. It truly means a lot to us. We're sorry for the confusion regarding the additional VRBO charge and understand how frustrating that must have been. We also appreciate your suggestions about the living room seating. As much as we'd love to accommodate a later check-out, we had arriving guests on your departure date and needed to give our cleaning team the full turnover window to prepare the home for their arrival. We truly appreciate your understanding. Thank you again for staying with us, and we hope to welcome you back in the future for an even better experience! Warm regards, Casago Sea Ranch

Clean and peaceful

Very clean place and well supplied. The deck was a beautiful place to eat at the table and the kitchen had everything we needed. Interesting art by the owners surrounds the place. The lighting in the living room and bedrooms was fair to poor, but the ambience was great. I would stay again.

This property appeared rustic in the listing but once we got there, it was clean, well-maintained, modern and well-appointed. We used every deck and started a fire both nights. Did lots of cooking, drank lots of wine! The BEST. I'd love to go back.

Restful Getaway

Very clean and comfortable, but no coffee. TV remote was a mystery to us, but we finally figured it out. Lovely house with sculptures and other art throughout. Of immense help were the automatic outside lights that came on to guide us up the stairs after dark.
