About this property

Lake Superior Log Cabin on Bike Path

Experience the rugged beauty of Lake Superior in a home that breathes history. Built in the 1920s as a traditional hunting lodge, this isn’t a cookie-cutter vacation rental—it’s a soulful, cozy "gateway" to the North Shore. If you’re looking for warmth, crackling fires, and the sound of waves against the shore, you’ve found your spot.

The cabin sits on a cliff 40 feet above Lake Superior, and is right next to the Gitchi-Gami biking trail. You’ll find on entry a fully equipped kitchen, a small bathroom, and two bedrooms (one with a queen, one with a full bed and 2 bunks). Our living room boasts large picture windows overlooking the daily changing lake views, a wood stove nestled into an original Carlton Peak quarried hearth, and a comfortable sofa bed. In the warm months our long side porch has an extra twin bed and 2 open doors which allow the screened lake breeze and the gurgle of our stream just below. We have a cedar bridge over the stream which leads to a spit of land for an extra private overlook or small tent site. There is a firepit in the cabin’s main yard, and parking for at least 3 cars.

5th Generation owners: brother, sister and cousin. Cousin Andrew lives in Seattle but still has family in Grand Marais. Peter lives in Indiana and Katie in Kentucky. They each enjoy coming up as often as possible, which ends up being at least 4 times a year through all seasons.

Why they chose this property

As you might imagine, we have many stories to tell about this place and this area. In fact, you'll find a book on the shelves written by our late grandmother talking about the history of county road 34.

What makes this property unique

It is 100 years this year in 2026. The imperfections are what make it perfect!
