Directions for location were very helpful. Nice location near Front Royal, good view and mostly quiet. Had a few noisy trains run by at night, was the only real disturbance. Cabin was well furnished and comfortable. Fire pit was very nicely set up.Only downside was cleanliness, old mousetraps left out with droppings nearby underneath TV and dining table near the wall.Overall was very nice and we enjoyed our stay. Thank you

Convenient to Front Royal and Skyline

Property well kept. Very private. You can walk down to the river. The front porch has a wooden glider, that you never want to get out of. Kitchen has all the necessities to cook a good meal. Very convenient to Front Royal, Skyline Drive and Luray Caverns.

Roomy Riverview Cabin

Enjoyed our visit. Location was great, secluded and private. Great for our 2 small chihuahuas. Did miss the beautiful view of the mountains that we had while staying at the other two cabins.

Loved this cabin

My wife and I stay in cabins often and this is by far one of the tops cabins we have ever been in. Overlooks the river from many view points, including the front porch. Easy parking, great fire pit, and it actually had a yard!

Peace and serenity

This is a very well appointed cabin. It has a nice rustic feel, is very comfortable and very nicely located. It is secluded and has a nice open area and welcoming feel. R stone wood burning fireplace give a real sense of nostalgia and is a really excellent smenity. The cabin is just outside of the town of Front Royal, with easy access to national and state parks. We really enjoyed our stay.

Relaxing Stay in the Shenandoah River Vally

A proper log cabin, and exactly what we were looking for. It was clean, quiet, and peaceful. The only gotcha was that the only three prong outlets were in the kitchen, which wasn't a problem, but would have bee good to know ahead of time. We had a lovely time and would definitely come again.

Tranquil Oasis in the Woods

We absolutely loved our stay. The cabin is very rustic and the pictures give an accurate representation of it. It's really nice and secluded at the end of the road. We thought it was very romantic and we're looking forward to coming back some time when it's nice and warm outside as this time we visited in January. John was a responsive host and had provided firewood for the fireplace, so we could enjoy a nice fire in the fireplace. If you are looking for a rustic and secluded getaway I can highly recommend Riverview!

Relaxing

This place is so quaint! Love the fireplace. Had everything that we needed. As a vacation property owner myself, I'd like to suggest better mattresses and please fix the stones on the porch. They are a real tripping hazard. Someone could get hurt Took advantage of the mild temperatures and hiked a lot. Front Royal is a cute little town. Apple house and Talk of the Mountain Seafood are awesome! Can't wait to visit again!

Rustic Privacy

This property was as advertised. It is rustic but clean with up to date amenities. We especially appreciated the remote feel of the property while still being close to town. I removed 1 star for cleanliness because we had to clean the fireplace before using and we felt the coffee maker needed cleaning before we would use it. A quick run to town for vinegar allowed us to easily clean it up. Also, kitchen plates, utensils and flatware were fine but the commonly used pans were not. All in all, highly recommended if you like rustic feel with privacy in the woods.

Nice cabin

This is a lovely cabin nestled in the woods with an easy 15 minute drive into town. The cabin was clean and comfortable. We went a few days before July 4th and hoped for a quiet week, but unfortunately our dogs were terrified of the fireworks set off by the neighbors and people across the river. So if you have dogs that hate fireworks I would avoid this cabin during the July 4th time. Besides that issue, the cabin had everything we needed. Nice yard. Comfy couch and beds. All the basic kitchen essentials provided. John was a kind and responsive host.

Secluded getaway

John's cabin is everything you'd expect: rustic, romantic, secluded, cozy. Check-in and access we're easy. The cabin was clean and comfortable. Some of the instructions were a little ambiguous about pricing for some options, but they didn't affect our stay. The only issue we had was with the fireplace. The provided ash can was full when we arrived, and we filled it again with the large volume of ash built up in the fireplace before we could even start to set up our own fire. The provided firewood was a little scrappy looking but burned nicely and we enjoyed a cozy fireside.

Cute, cozy cabin with a pretty view of the river (at least in winter)

Very cute and cozy cabin with a lovely porch that faces out over the Shenandoah River. The place was very comfortable and clean when we arrived, and the instructions for accessing the place were clear and helpful. I especially loved the fireplace and the views of the river from the front porch and the front window (although some other reviewers have indicated that it's hard to see the river when the leaves are in). I think the only complaints I have are the lack of cell service for Verizon (but that's not the fault of the cabin owner and is clearly stated in the description) and the somewhat difficult access to the river and to any hiking trails. But I still really enjoyed my stay. I would especially recommend it in winter because the place feels especially cozy in the cold with a fire going.

Canoeing weekend

Went with friends and spent 2 days on the Shenandoah River via Downriver Canoe Co (they're great, BTW!). Chose this location bc of its proximity to Downriver and beautiful view. Arrived on Friday and used the fire pit to get the coals going, then transfered them to the grilling chimney. The grill grate over there needs replacing but the food was delicious. It rained Sat night and the front porch came in handy to listen to the rain fall. Property is definitely "rustic" but comfortable and not missing anything. Gave 4 stars bc of the bathroom - the shower hardware had a thick layer of soap scum on it and tub needed more attention. Kitchen looked great. Overall, despite the bathroom that just needs a little more elbow grease, the cabin served our purpose well and we'd stay there again. Others said the insects were an issue, but it wasn't for us. We didn't even need bug spray when sitting on the porch.

Remote but has a few issues

First, I want to say that is a cabin in the woods and based on location is why I booked the rental. My friend and family went to the location to shoot a scene in a creative short film project. The owner mentioned that I needed his permission but after speaking with VRBO unless it is explicit stated by the host, which he didn’t, so that is not accurate. The overall experience was not what any of us expected. I left the overall 2 star rating because of the following: - the floor, counters and table were all dirty upon arrival. Dirty in this case is wiping a surface with a damp paper towel and the paper towel becoming brown. The fridge has a lot of orange rust stains but I don’t think that can be cleaned. - A lot of Mice dropping on the kitchen counter and they were eating our cookies. I mentioned this to the owner and his response was it is a cabin in the woods, they have an exterminator and they try to get rid of the mice. - Mold in the bathroom shower window. Mold is always concerning but I think it might be hard to prevent mold when there is a window in the shower. - Lots of bugs. Upon booking I did not see where the owner disclosed that they have bugs. I just want other users to be aware of a bug issue. - the front patio is partially not useable. There is a number of loose and in my opinion dangerous, stone pieces that are no longer secure and probably should not be walked on. I would be aware and cautious. - There was a miss communication with a lawn care worker but the owner communicated those concerns to his worker and I think that will not be an issue in the future. - Communication. Upon arrival I reached out to the host and asked about cost of firewood. The hose never responded. He finally responded only after my stay was complete and I messaged him about wanting to talk to him prior to leaving a review. After my message he called me to discuss all of the following and I made him aware that my mom brought her dog for one night, 20lb dog without asking me, he charged me $100 for that. Since then he has only communicated after I messaged at least two times. All documented via text messages and through VRBO message system. I have reached out to VRBO to understand their policy when it comes to mold, mice and walk ways that are dangerous and I am awaiting a response. I have documented all of the above concerns. We left the property clean and free of damage. It is a great place for peace but be aware of the above.

Overall the cabin is clean and comfortable. It was as described. A few small items would have made the stay excellent vs. good. The outdoor water spigot was inoperable which made it difficult to wash out coolers and gear after a day of fishing. Not to nitpick but there was only one roll of paper towels provided which ran out quickly due to required use to clean up gear due to no outside water. There were only two trash bags provided. No soap or shampoo in the shower. A small investment in these items would go a long way imho. Overall, we were satisfied with the stay. I will not post this online. It is honest feedback for the owners use.
