About this property

Cabin #1 - "Chickagami"

Cabin #1 - "Chickagami"
A Native American word meaning “camp by the lake.” Chickagami is a fitting name for this 431 sq ft cabin, one of the first built in 1929 along the lakeshore of this small vintage resort currently known as Lakeside Cabins.

This Vintage Rustic cabin, primarily designed for the camping & fishing enthusiast, is just one cabin of a 7 cabin resort. This cabin was built in the late 1920's and holds every bit of that vintage character. It may be a little rough around the edges but this authentic cabin holds the wonderful allure of days gone by. Electrical outlets would have been added a few years later and those are few and far between. Those details won't matter to the outdoorsy kind coming for the camping experience where lake activity fills your day and evenings are enjoyed around the campfire. This charming cabin has a knotty pine interior and all the basics to create an Up North camping style atmosphere. A lifestyle one will appreciate becoming acquainted with.

All the cabins are lined up next to each other along the shore of a beautifully serene lake. This close proximity to other cabins have traditionally created a friendly community style atmosphere where guests mingle and create lasting friendships. This is the kind of place where your grandparents brought your parents, your parent’s brought you, and you are now bringing your children to create beautiful memories while spending a nostalgic vacation in a familiar old cabin.

The listed rate reflects the price for 4 adults or a family with children up to 6 people total. Additional adults beyond 4 will incur additional charges. This cabin has a sleeping capacity up to 6 people utilizing 2 bedrooms, each with a queen size bed and a futon in the living room. There is 1 electrical outlet next to the bed in one of the bedrooms, the other bedroom does not have an electrical outlet. Other electrical outlets are minimally located throughout the cabin. This cabin has a kitchen with everything to cover your basic needs, a dinning space and a simple bathroom that includes a warm shower. The spacious 13'x7' enclosed porch overlooking the lake is the perfect place to enjoy your coffee and watch the morning sunrise.

Whether you are looking for a home base to camp at the lake or a base camp while you explore the area’s attractions, you will enjoy this cozy cabin and all its imperfections. More than anything, you’re gonna love the authentic charm and the carefree lifestyle that comes with camping Up North.

Pets are welcome on the property for an additional fee of $25 per night / per pet, paid at time of arrival if not otherwise paid. This includes pets of your visitors to the property.

Our cabin was clean along with the bedding. Richie our host was very nice and made himself available to us, when we checked in and any questions we may have had. This cabin is rustic but the view of the lake is very nice. The front porch we didn’t use, it needs some work. The toilet leaked so the bathroom floor was wet after several flushes. We booked this for two nights and ended up staying only one night.

It's all relative......If you are looking for a rustic place to stay that is a step up from camping - it's a good choice. Great view, has an A/C unit that does cool down the place. BUT if you are thinking it's a quaint cabin along the lake - it's a no. Doors and windows don't shut properly, bathroom toilet leaks, shower curtain is gross and water goes all over the floor, and finishes throughout are very poor quality.

Really enjoyed the quietness of the home. Maybe a couple of cheap plastic stemless wineglasses. There wasn't even a cork screw to open a bottle of wine. I bought one and left it for others to use. Those are my only minor complaints.

Sorry you weren't able to find a corkscrew for your wine bottle, they do indeed get lost easily with everyone coming and going. I do keep extra items on hand, it's one of the advantages of living onsite.

Think of this place as staying in a camping cabin except with comfortable beds, a sink, stove and bathroom with a shower. Very rustic but comfortable camping!

Toilet leaks and pools water in front of the toilet, doors don’t lock, door jams are like they’ve been kicked in, some windows don’t close, cracks under doors big enough for rodents or snakes to get in, floors throughout are warped and raised and soft due to moisture, carpet is stained and nasty. It is rustic and it does have air, and it does have 2 beds, and a kitchen. But other than that if this sounds like what you want, then it’s for you. I’ve stayed in a lot of places and a lot of cabins, and yes some pretty rustic ones. This place is so over priced. It is obvious that the owner does not put any of the income back into the property. I understand keeping the cabins rustic, but then you can tell when there’s been zero upkeep. That’s what you will get with this one. Good Luck!

Born and raised in Northern Michigan, I’ve worked with the special needs community for over 30 years. By recently purchasing a little 7 cabin lakefront resort, I was able to transition my career to incorporate my love for camping, outdoor activity, and local history in a way I can share with others. I offer vacation rentals of vintage rustic lakeside cabins that were established in 1929. I welcome guests who love the camping experience while venturing to the Mackinac area historic sites, adventurers who come to enjoy outdoor activities, or those who are simply here to relax and enjoy the area’s natural beauty.

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with this property because it encompasses the style of vintage cabins from days gone by, back when times were simpler. The cabins offer the nostalgic feel of the camping experience I remember enjoying as a child.
