Cabin #4 - "Hackmatack"
Cabin #4 - "Hackmatack" Named after a type of pine tree found in the Northeastern United States and Canada, this cabin is similarly named to its sister cabin. With 2 bedrooms and 449 sq ft, it's a wonderfully snug size for a small group of friends.
This Vintage Rustic cabin, primarily designed for the camping & fishing enthusiast, is just one cabin of a 7 cabin resort. This cabin was built in the early 1930's and holds every bit of that vintage character. It may be a little rough around the edges but this authentic cabin holds the wonderful allure of days gone by. Electrical outlets would have been added a few years later and those are few and far between. The cabin was clean and tidy. The host was very attentive and helpful. The lake was right out the door and very beautiful. The bathroom was small and in need of a facelift.
Fantastic spot right on the lake. Quiet and beautiful view. Just exactly as characterized but better as far as comfort and thoughtful touches that made for a great cabin camping experience.
Host greeted us right as we arrived and got us settled in nicely. The cabins are rustic but well maintained and clean. Every cabin has a fantastic view of the lake with nice screened in porch. We only stayed one night but this would be great for a week.
The cabin was as advertised. It was rustic and had basic accommodations. We ventured to iconic Leggs Inn for dinner, a 20 minute drive, which we enjoyed very much. Bed was ok. Great value compared to nearby hotels in Mackinaw City & St. Ignace. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a no frills and clean place to sleep.
This is the perfect place to stay for a nice weekend reset or if you're planning a trip to Mackinaw City or the Island. Clean, Quiet, Friendly and all the comforts of home.
Nice cabin on the lake, great fire pit. everything worked like it should. Richie is a really nice guy and keeps the place tidy. I will go back for another stay. PS: Cross village is close, so dinner at leggs in is a must.
Very rustic. Fun place to stay. Wish the bathroom was updated, but everything worked and was fine. Great location to use as a base to visit UP locations and the Island. Beautiful sunrises over the lake. Highly recommend if you like rustic places with great character!! We would love to stay there again!!
Great little waterfront cabin! We stayed for a long weekend of playing on the water. Access to the inland waterway is only 20 minutes away. Mackinaw only 10 minutes, and a good boat launch right next door. Rustic cabin charm was awesome. Reminded me of Canadian fishing trips with my dad.
Rented (4) cottages for a family reunion. All worked out great! Campfires at night, smores, pontoon rides during the day. Close to many northern and U.P attractions, making day trips easy.
Old to young alike just loved the place and atmosphere.
Great sunrises, sunsets and star gazing at night. Highly recommend.

About the host

Born and raised in Northern Michigan, I’ve worked with the special needs community for over 30 years. By recently purchasing a little 7 cabin lakefront resort, I was able to transition my career to incorporate my love for camping, outdoor activity, and local history in a way I can share with others. I offer vacation rentals of vintage rustic lakeside cabins that were established in 1929. I welcome guests who love the camping experience while venturing to the Mackinac area historic sites, adventurers who come to enjoy outdoor activities, or those who are simply here to relax and enjoy the area’s natural beauty.
Why they chose this property
I fell in love with this property because it encompasses the style of vintage cabins from days gone by, back when times were simpler. The cabins offer the nostalgic feel of the camping experience I remember enjoying as a child.
