About this property

1BR, s/c, a/c garden cottage on a large lot in the heart of coastal Milton NSW

Our secluded one-bedroom, air-conditioned garden cottage is in the heart of the historic township of Milton on the NSW south coast. Enjoy your exclusive use north-facing deck that overlooks a private-use and, further, a shared-use lawn. It has sun-lounges, chairs, a large shady umbrella and a Weber BBQ. We welcome a single well behaved and controlled dog but we have dog fees.

The bedroom has a luxury queen-size bed with topper and made up with crisp clean linen. It has a large built-in wardrobe, chest of drawers, a lounge chair and bedside tables with device charging capacity. There is a full sized bathroom/laundry combined. The shower and toilet have disability handrails (though not fully Disability Compliant).

The kitchen, open plan with the dining and lounge areas has an electric stove, medium sized refrigerator, microwave and a range of appliances (but no dishwasher). The living/dining area has a work desk, Koala sofa bed (MVR can accommodate a maximum of 4), lounge chairs and a dining table with seating for 4.

Access to Milton Village Retreat is via a battleaxe driveway. This is diagonally opposite paddocks that sweep across the valley and up stocked with sheep and cattle - the best of both worlds - being right in the village but also in the country.

The cottage is adjacent to, but privately separated from, the owners' residence. Your hosts - Pip and Bill live in the main house. Though they are old hands at hosting having owned and run Bawley Bush Retreat for 25 years MVR is managed and cohosted by their daughter, Rachel.

It's just a short stroll to the heritage-listed Milton Village with its cafes, homewares, dress shops, pubs (Milton and Star) and bars (Altar, Harvest, Small Town Provisions and Yuki). Food offerings include cafes (Pilgrims Vegetarian, Brown Sugar and Peach and Delly's Gourmet sandwiches); restaurants (Nomah middle eastern, the Prickly Pear mediterranean seafood, Whats-Up-Bowl asian and Baar-Baar Indian).

Cupitts Winery is just five minute drive as are the magic Mollymook and Narrawallee Beaches. Amazing surf beaches in and around Ulladulla - also just a little further. Mollymook and Milton have truly become a foodies paradise. In Mollymook there is Rick Steins Bannisters, The Pool Bar and Pavillion Roof Top Bar and Restaurant. Gwylo offers the most delicious up-market modern Asian Fusion fare. There are many short drives to other beautiful locations with easy access to the Clyde River and Pigeon House Mountain.

Great place
Close to everything in Milton, including the Community Prayer Wheel. Has all amenities and a swivel rocking chair my partner loved. Even saw the local wombat.

Great place to stay
Really enjoyed our stay. The place was very nice and clean, garden was very nice. We really liked the local area in Milton and nearby Mollymook. Handy being close to town. Much better to stay here than Ulladulla of you have a car. Short drive to get to so many places

Quiet but Handy.
The location of the property was perfect. It was very quiet and private, tho only a short distance from the busy hub of Milton centre. The property itself was very clean, spacious and comfortable. Every facility that could be required for a relaxing stay had been clearly thought of and provided. Certainly the best stay we have ever experienced.

A must stay
Bill and Pip have a wonderful welcoming homely property for a terrific holiday place. They are very happy to accommodate your needs and have a lot of helpful information in the home. We were very impressed with our accommodation and it's location and would certainly recommend it as a must stay for a couple. Bill was very helpful with my online questions prior to our stay and it made our whole experience very pleasant and hassle free. Thank you Bill and Pip for having such a welcoming home like property . We hope you other business is up and running again soon after the fires, stay safe Regards Debbie and Matt

About the host

Hosted by Rachel Barry

Host profile image
Owners Pip James and Bill Powell, recently retired, developed Bawley Bush Retreat, now Jackson Ranch, at Bawley Point. They started development there in 1992 and sold to the Bannister Hotel group in 2021. Pip grew up in London and retired from an Australian career in journalism, university tutoring and motherhood. Bill grew up on a farm in Victoria and longago made the sea change from an executive career in Sydney. Pip and Bill used to holiday on the NSW south coast and so it was natural to choose this area when we wanted to leave the city.
We have hobbies including being in a choir, book groups, film groups and we convene a ukelele group each Saturday when we are home. When we are home we welcome a knock on the door and are happy to answer questions and share knowledge of the area with guests. When we are not at home we have co-hosts who substitute for us.

Why they chose this property

Pip and Bill purchased their Milton property with an existing granny flat in 2017 so they would have a place to retire to close to family and friends when they later sold Bawley Bush Retreat. Milton is a heritage town located in dairy country with great restaurants, cafes and pubs, and medical facilities all within easy walking distance.

What makes this property unique

Milton Village Retreat is a desirable location because of its proximity to the Village and its specialty stores and cafes and easy driving distance to beaches and a great range of restaurants. Milton is also the gateway to the hinterland areas of Pigeon House Mountain and the pristine Clyde River, several National Parks and to state forests. It also particularly well located for guests who might want to visit their relatives in the close by Sarah Claydon retirement home or in the nearby Milton Hospital.
