The house is in the little hamlet of La Borie, just over the hill from the listed village of Lusignac with its fortified farmhouse, ancient church and pretty restaurant/bar. The house is set in 3 acres of grounds which include a field, orchard and small wood. The scale of the house is impressive and it has all the features you would expect in a 250 year old farmhouse plus all the modern conveniences necessary for a comfortable stay. It's well equipped and the decor is an interesting mix of old and new, paintings by friends and family and objects collected over the years.
La Borie is a great location for family gatherings or reunions, as there is plenty to occupy all ages both around the house and in the wider area - wonderful markets and restaurants specialising in local delicacies, brocantes and vide greniers where you can still find some great gems, and historic villages with charming chateaux and churches. Canoeing, cycling and tennis are also popular with families and sports enthusiasts. Wine tasting around the Bergerac and Bordeaux vineyards can provide another fun day out, and is popular with the men when others want to just laze about the pool. The Dordogne valley makes another fun outing for all the family. There are wonderful prehistoric caves, medieval towns and castles, some wonderful gardens and great canoeing on the river. There are several beaches nearby on rivers and lakes, and the sea is also doable for a day.
But for those who just need to relax, be quiet or enjoy time with the family, the property is spacious enough for even a large group not to feel over-crowded. The pool is big enough for swimming lengths or playing games, and deep enough to have a diving board. There is also a shallow section ideal for little ones. There is table tennis in the barn, a badminton area on the field or boule in the grounds.
The house is arranged over 3 floors. Large farmhouse kitchen and sitting room on the ground floor. The 2 principal bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms on the first floor, and a further 3 bedrooms and a bathroom on the top floor where there is limited headroom.
The open hangar in the courtyard is now a lovely outdoor dining area, and the barn is now available to guests. It's rustic, but charming, and consists of a bar area on one side of the animal stalls, and table tennis on the other. An excellent place to escape the heat of the sun, or enjoy a pre-dinner drink.
