About this property
Ocean Front Cottage On Quiet Birch Harbor
The addition of heat pumps are big news for our early and late season guests.
You will note lapses in guest reviews. This is due to our many long term returning guests renting directly through us. They cannot leave any type of reviews on VRBO.
Please note- Sunday to Sunday change over this season.
Storm Update
The January 2025 back to back storms caused severe damage to our coastal communities, not only in Maine but southern New England as well.
Our property was no exception with thirty plus trees down, loss of shorefront vegetation, and the formation of a new seawall (300 pound boulders tossed onto the shoreline!). Our pictures have been updated to reflect the new reality of the shoreline and our rehabilitation efforts to provide a comfortable and natural setting for for all to enjoy.
Nature is amazing and reinforces that man does not "own" the land-we are just caretakers.
A hearty welcome to Breezy Point Cottage.
Although we have owned the land for over 25 years, we were only able to build around 12 years ago. Designed with lots of pine, cedar, open beams, and some wallboard for color. A mix of old and new furnishings (my heirloom ugly pink shade lamp stays as voted on by prior guests- much to Kathy's chagrin), lots of windows and outdoor spaces offers one multiple opportunities to find that contemplative area. Pines all around, overlooking the open ocean and a deep water bay, this cottage resides on a dead end very quiet private road on Birch Harbor.
Here you can enjoy the privacy of 225 feet of rock bound waters. An easy path to the shore rocks for sitting in your red chairs to enjoy the waves, wildlife, cruise ships, lobster boats, and a view of the Petit Manan Light. We have a thunder hole when the waves get rolling and a tidal pool to cool your feet. A chimenea and wood near the shore for your outdoor adventures. Lots of low bush blueberries for breakfast when in season.
The second floor has the bedrooms. Bedroom one overlooks the ocean and bay, has a king bed and a sitting area. Plenty of room for the rollaway bed.
Bedroom two has a queen bed and overlooks the bay and the pines. Room for the rollaway bed here as well.
Both bedrooms have a separate door to the deck overlooking the bay, setting sun, mountain, and the night sky. Gazing at the milky way may be the highlight of your stay. Two air mattress (and pump) supplied for those wanting to overnight on the deck. Those pesky mosquitoes do not seem to fly this high, making this spot a pleasure especially at night. Be sure to use the LED glasses for your nighttime liquid fortifications!
There is a full bath upstairs as well. This is the only “room” without an ocean view!
As you can visualize in the pictures, the second floor is unfinished on the exterior walls giving that cottage look of yesteryear. Your looking at the interesting patterns of the pine sheathing. The ceilings are finished and insulated.
The first floor has a full kitchen, a separate utility area with a 1/2 bath containing a washer/dryer for your use.
The dining nook has an expandable table seating up to 8 overlooking the ocean and the bay view.
An open living area with a large couch and four chairs you can move around to the changing views and guests. A day bed provides one with a small escape, a breeze, and a view. Children of all ages seem to find pleasure in the "fort" below the daybed. The couch is a queen foldout. Exit this room to the small front deck or a screened in porch. Dine on the screen porch or hang up the two hammocks for an overnight rest. Let the waves, foghorn and shoal buoys erase your tensions.
There is a freestanding gas fireplace should heat (or effect!) be required. The wood fireplace is locked out and not available for use.
Wireless internet is available (finally, some would say ) at the cottage. The DVD player (Blu-Ray) gives one access to their internet TV if you have such a subscription. We have a ROKU stick as well for use. No live TV. A wacky collection of DVD's and an old shortwave radio for your enjoyment are here as well. Lots of Maine history books for the quiet times.
There is an unfinished walkout basement (viewed under the porch and deck). The slider allows you to store your toys inside.
Your well behaved dogs (two maximum) are welcome. We keep pet bowls, leash, toys, etc. for your use. Two large dog-a-pedic beds are here and should keep your pooch comfortable after a long day of exploration.
A nice loop to walk is right from the front door (about 2 miles or so) brings you views of Prospect Harbor, Schoodic peninsula, and the tip of Birch Harbor.
Schoodic is an easy bike or car ride. The new addition of the campground also brings new bike trails, walking/hiking trails and ANP programs to this quiet part of ANP.
Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge resides about a half hour North in Milbridge. Great birding, secluded beach, and great views abound with very minimal human traffic.
Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park on Mount Desert is an hour drive. A nice way to spend the day is to ferry out of Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor, than use the Island Explorer bus system to access many parts of ANP and all of this parks offerings. From the landing you can walk into Bar Harbor for a return to civilization(?). For those with limited time on MDI, Ollie's Trolley has a great tour of Bar Harbor proper, ANP, all the while their guides give a great running history.
For those of you new to the area-there is a growing information book at the cottage to assist you in your adventures.
We encourage you to call or write with any questions regarding our offering or the area in general.
No matter where you choose to stay, natures beauty is the draw here.
Happy trails to you!
Dave, Kathy, Chris, and Mike
