About this property

Private Waterfalls on 3 Acres. A Creekside Smoky Mtn Retreat - Read Our Reviews!

Note: No scary, steep mountain roads to traverse! Easy access off I-40. You will be staying only 2 miles off exit 412, which is only 4 miles from exit 407, the gateway to Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and The Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Be prepared to be awed! You’ve just found a little slice of heaven.

Stay next to a fully functioning 1798 grist mill. A rare piece of TN history

This 2 story, coziest of cabins on 3 secluded acres

Relax by your own private cascading creek. Cook out on the grill, picnic or warm up by the fire pit, all creek side. If you’re lucky, you might get a rare sighting of our resident family of six otters playing & diving for fish in the creek!

Dandridge (the 2nd oldest town in TN) scenic Douglas Lake, Pigeon Forge and The Smokies are close by.

Experience a place that, prior to being featured on the Discovery Channel, was known only to a few locals.

Privately tucked away in a 3 acre wooded hollow, is a place like no other. Driving in, the three story, fully functioning, authentic 1798 grist mill will greet, charm & fascinate. Note: Mill is not open to the public so you will have the property all to yourselves during your stay.

This property has been an iron forge, foundry; and a mill (for locals and moonshiners alike) for the past 225+ years. The cabin, hidden behind the mill, was built much later as a private residence. This property is now, for the first time in history, available for you to enjoy. By staying here you will also be contributing to the preservation and upkeep of this wonderful piece of history for future generations.

Hidden behind the mill is the cabin on Dumplin Creek. King & queen bedrooms upstairs, a newly remodeled bathroom downstairs, quaint kitchen, living room & hidden laundry.

If it couldn’t get any better than this, sit on one of the front porch rockers or swing and be relaxed by your own private cascading creek! Historic Dumplin Creek runs right through the middle of the property, has a 5ft deep swimming hole and is even known to have a fish or two. Explore the trail behind the cabin (at your own risk) where the old mill race runs, all the way to the sluice gate and dam, which is also part of this enchanting property.

Cook out on the grill, picnic, or roast marshmallows on the fire pit, all creekside.

Living away from it all, you may feel like Davy Crockett, and keep in mind that you are only a few minutes away from the second oldest town in Tennessee, one of the most scenic (& best fishing) lakes around and within a short drive to Pigeon Forge and The Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

With nature abounding, history and all the attractions that the area has to offer, what could be better? But, be forewarned, you may not want to leave.

Note: The inside of the old grist mill, located on this property, is not available to the public, nor (for safety reasons) is it available for our guests to go inside.

Relaxing, peaceful, beautiful. Our stay at the Old French Mill was exactly what we needed. The sound of the waterfalls, buzzing bees, and chirping birds was perfection. It feels incredibly private though just a short drive to the grocery store and downtown Dandridge. The cabin is quiet and cozy and stocked with everything you might need. I sat for hours with coffee and rocked on the porch watching the hummingbirds and enjoying visits from a giant blue heron and the neighboring farm’s adorable dog, Rucker. He was such a delight! The big old red mill begged to in a painting and I enjoyed doing that down by the creek as well as reading and napping down there on a blanket. If you’re craving a quiet getaway with beautiful surroundings, just book this wonderful property.

Lovely private stay

Such a lovely old cabin. Everything was clean, comfy, and secluded yet close. The property was beautiful from the old mill, the cabin itself, and waterfalls. I explored up to the dam in search of otters, but no luck. Darn. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

Peaceful Cabin Set in Nature's Beauty

A very clean, cozy cabin adjacent to a circa 1798 mill building. The property has a beautiful waterfall that can be enjoyed from the front porch. A wonderful place to stay near Pigeon Forge, but a world away from the crowds.

Historic Romantic Hideaway

Location was like none other we've stayed at with the log cabin, rushing creek and historic grist mill. You can go from the 19th to 21st century within 10-15 minutes. The most relaxing VRBO we've ever stayed at. The hosts were super nice, quick to respond to all communications, and proud of their home. The descendant, Wayne Woods, grandson of the original owner, KC French, was enthusiastic to share with us his experience growing up on the property and lives up the hill from it to this day. He was very nice, generous, and answered all questions about the property/his family/history while giving us a tour of the historic grist mill (highly recommend!) The cabin is gorgeous, cozy, comfortable and has all the modern conveniences. We will definitely be coming back! Thanks again, De and Ron.

Solitude

When you pull into the property it’s like stepping back in time. The cabin is very quaint and cozy. It was clean and welcoming. Stocked with everything you could need. The bed was comfortable and my husband and I slept great. The best thing about this cabin was sitting on the front porch listening to the creek. It makes a great backdrop for a nap. It was absolutely relaxing which was just what I needed. It is also easy to get to all the restaurants in sevierville and pigeon forge The only suggestion I have is to bring or buy water to drink and make coffee with because there was an odor to the water. If you want to relax and unwind this is the perfect place.

Transcendent!

My family had an extraordinary time at this cozy, comfy cabin situated right on Dumplin’ Creek complete with our own waterfall! Yes, our own waterfall! You read that right! The area is resplendent with birds (even kingfishers) and a cute as pie groundhog residing by the renovated 1798 grist mill! At night, during s’mores hour at the fire pit by the creek, we marveled at the fireflies and harmony of the cicadas. So much nature but with hot water and electricity. Wink. The cabin has everything your heart could desire including a fireplace with glowing logs and quilts just like grandma’s! And it’s only a short drive from the great smokies! Book this now! Thank you to the owners! Light and Love!

Perfect cabin get-away!

My husband and I wanted a cabin on a creek for some much needed rest and relaxation! We found this perfect get-away. We enjoyed sitting down by the waterfall near the fire pit, swinging and rocking on the front porch reading or just enjoying the sound of water. Cabin was warm and welcoming. Neighbor Wayne and the dogs (Dog and Rucker) were so nice. He gave us a tour of the mill sharing all his family memories of growing up playing in the mill. It’s an amazing thing seeing it fully functional! Highly recommend a day trip to Clingman’s Dome for hike to top, tour Bush’s Bean museum in Chestnut Hill, see Douglas Dam, and visit the nearby antique stores. We even enjoyed just a cabin day because it’s perfect for a lazy day. De and Ron responded quickly to messages and check in/out couldn’t have been any easier! Thank you for sharing this cabin with us. We can’t wait to visit the Smoky’s again!

Grist Mill/ Log Cabin/ Waterfalls Getaway

From the very moment we turned into the country lane we fell in love. The beautiful 222-year-old fully restored Grist Mill stands so majestic, and you are just in awe of its beauty and history. You then hear, see and smell the gorgeous waterfalls. You can't wait to run down, sit and relax!! Amongst all the excitement you then see the lovely cabin that is so inviting, just welcoming you to enter. To be quite honest I didn't know what to do first!! Leaving my truck door opened, my husband is laughing at me and my excitement, tells me to come on into the cabin, unload then decide what to do next. As we enter the cabin we were literally taken back by its cleanliness and how good it smelled. We spent 3 wonderful days really doing nothing but enjoying our surroundings. Sunrise mornings enjoying on the front porch, daytimes relaxing by the water and finishing off the evening by a campfire eating hotdogs and smores!! If you are quite enough you may get to see the beautiful Blue Heron, who calls the falls his home. There is also rabbits, squirrels, butterflies and a harmless Bluetail lizard. This is the perfect setting for a wonderful relaxing vacation. A 5-minute drive to Danridge, a beautiful quaint town, Douglas Lake and about 25- minutes to the Pigeon Forge area. I didn't want to leave and WILL be back soon!! I hope you will enjoy this property as much as we did!!!

The property is beautiful and the waterfall is a dream! I loved sitting on the porch just listening to the water. The cabin is well made with nice decor and finishings. Owners are nice and very attentive. I definitely want to stay again! The only thing I would add is it needs a little more lighting, especially in the kitchen. And a hot tub would make it perfect! But, I don’t have to have those last items to stay. Thank you for the opportunity to share this property and to make great memories. It’s been a hard year and this is just what I needed!!

Exactly what we were looking for

From the moment we turned in the drive and saw the mill and waterfall we knew we would enjoy our stay. It feels like you’re in the middle of no where yet you’re right off the road and interstate is only 2 miles away. With the sound from the waterfalls you don’t hear any noises around you. We spent all our time by the creek relaxing. Even caught a few small rainbow trout and Crawdads. The cabin had everything we needed. We plan on returning another time.

A little slice of heaven

We had a wonderful visit. The cabin is very clean and comfortable. The setting is all we had hoped for. In fact, it's so lovely you almost don't want to go anywhere else. The first morning we had a lovely surprise of seeing a ground hog on the steps outside the mill. We would definitely stay here again and will tell others about it.

Perfectly peaceful.

Wonderfully private and secluded property! Upon arrival, everything was clean and completely ready for us, and we were very pleased to find that there was no-one else within eye or ear-shot since a quiet, private, regenerative respite was what we were after. Even with the highway to attractions less than a mile away we could barely hear it over the beautiful babble of the creek, and that was with the trees still bare from the winter. (I'm sure that once foliage is in bloom you feel completely isolated.)The cabin itself is beautiful and thoughtful, it has personal charm without being inconveniently designed, and I cannot express how pleasant it is to sit and read by the waterfall which is audible from anywhere inside through a cracked window, or silent if you leave the windows closed. There is seating on the porch for two together in a porch swing and/or two separate in rocking chairs, and then there is further seating right by the water both in the sun and in the shade. Inside is all you need but only as much as. The hosts are also highly communicative when reached out to but otherwise hands-off which was appreciated. My partner and I unfortunately fell ill 1.5 nights into our planned 4-night stay, and Ron & De were incredibly gracious about us extending our stay by a night until we were recovered enough to make it home. While laid out is not an ideal way to spend a vacation, I don't think we could have picked a better spot to find ourselves as such. Thank you, Ron & De!

This is a wonderful weekend getaway. Sit in the rocking chairs with your feet up and just relax with the sounds of the water rushing over the rocks.Recommend 100%!!!

Anniversary Trip

My wife and I came to the Dandridge area in order to visit WolfPAWs (Wolf-Dog Sanctuary) for our anniversary. I chose this particular property to stay in because it was a short drive to the sanctuary and the pictures looked beautiful. It did not disappoint. The cabin was cozy. The creek with small rapids right outside and the Grist Mill dating back to the late 1700s were both very nice. We had a great time.

2024 family holiday

We have stayed at properties from Montana to Washington, to Tennessee If you are looking for 5 star elegance, thankfully this is not that property.ButIf you want pure natural beauty, classic style and attention to detail, this is it.The cabin is immaculate inside and has new appliances and fixtures, without sacrificing its charm. De and Ron are gracious and responsive. The water and old grist mill are beautiful. The only thing that could have made this trip better was some snow, and we aren’t holding that against the host!We will be back in December of 2025.
