We love Wasdale so The Retreat is a perfect location for us.
We love Wasdale so The Retreat is a perfect location for us. It's our second visit this year! The accommodation is comfortable and having a second bedroom allows us to spread out. 4 adults sharing might be snug? The power shower is great, the beds are comfortable and the heating system works well. Will happily visit again.

I love staying at the Retreat and can't wait to return again as soon as possible.
I love staying at the Retreat and can't wait to return again as soon as possible. The location is fantastic as the views right outside the window are awesome. Also, once you arrive, there is no need to drive anywhere as there are several walks from the door. The only place you need to drive to is Gosforth or Whitehaven for the nearest shops. However, this means that Wasedale remains relatively unspoilt as most of the people you meet are also lovers of the countryside.

This was our second time staying at the retreat.
This was our second time staying at the retreat. We absolutely it here! It's a perfect location and the Retreat do a great job of making sure you have what you need.My only negative was the level of cleanliness. It was a noticeable decline in most areas compared to our first stay. Bed bugs were a big problem and both myself and partner woke up to several bites. It was clean on a surface level but could do with a deep clean. I imagine it's very busy as it really is a lovely place to stay. I have always highly recommend it since our first visit. It was such a shame as I couldn't relax completely.

Loved this Cottage! It's in the perfect location for hikes and just so tranquil.
Loved this Cottage! It's in the perfect location for hikes and just so tranquil. 4 if us stayed and we all loved it. The kitchen is well equipped too. We knew on this trip we would be cooking at home as we were expecting to be in the heart of Wasdale with not many shops around. We did go to the farm shop to get extra eggs because we ran out. Wasdale waters/Scafell Pike not too far. We even did Middle Fell which the trail starts right next to the cottage and gives you a great view of Scafell pike at the top. I would also like to mention that on the day we left the host sent us an email letting us know about road closures due to flooding as it was raining. Giving us an alternative route back home. Not sure we would have gotten home without it, probably would have ended up stuck or arrived super late. Very greatful for it. Thanks and we definitely want to come back!

The retreat is a very well equipped clean & comfortable cottage however we must agree with previous guests that have stayed there in that it may be nice having netflix but not having a TV license is very limiting to watch normal TV.

Excellent place to stay, clean, warm and what fantastic views.
Excellent place to stay, clean, warm and what fantastic views. Could not fault it !
As self-catering accommodation goes, this is right up there with the best. It’s beautifully furnished, all the equipment is of the highest quality and it was spotlessly clean. There was no mobile phone signal but the WiFi was excellent.
The location is stunning, just a short drive from beautiful Wastwater in one direction and Ravenglass with the little railway (La’al Ratty) and Muncaster Castle in the other. We took our two grandsons aged 11 and 8 and they thoroughly enjoyed it, as did we ourselves.
We were blessed with good weather, contrary to the forecast, which obviously helped but I am sure that even if the weather hadn’t been so good we would still have had a great time in this fabulous place.
Thoroughly recommend this property for a short break.
