About this property
Beautiful, Private, 3 BR Oceanfront Cottage on Dyer Bay
Oceanfront cottage situated just 60 feet from the rocky shoreline of Dyer Bay. Nestled among spruce and fir trees with water on two sides and over 185 ft. of frontage, this home provides access to all the best that DownEast Maine has to offer. Whether you are kayaking on the bay, bicycling on any number of local bike paths or hiking one of the spectacular ocean trails, this is a perfect place where you can relax and unwind. Appropriately named "Sunset Point", this cottage is located on a private drive on Goods Point in Steuben. It was completely rebuilt in 2016 so everything is new! Relax and enjoy the wonderful views on the wraparound deck or down on the rocks by the water's edge. You can watch the lobster boats work their traps in the bay, and then anchor them for the night in front of the cottage. In the fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances you can steam your own lobster in our pot, or grill steaks on the gas grill on the deck. The living area and dining room are open with a cathedral ceiling with wall to wall picture windows which flows into the kitchen. Two doors lead you onto the deck which has a full complement of deck furniture including (2) bar height tables. Every room has a ceiling fan (including all three bedrooms), which will keep you cool while watching the 42" HDTV with blu ray DVD and satellite service. Plus the cottage has WIFI. Three bedrooms (two queen and one with twin beds), 2 bathrooms, one with tub/shower, stackable washer and dryer and all the amenities you would expect for a perfect vacation getaway. Bring your kayaks and launch them from a private cove next to the cottage. Then paddle out to explore Dyer Bay and Fish Island. Go around the bend to see if bald eagles are perched in their nest. Sunset Point Cottage is an ideal spot to venture off and visit any number of amazing places. Explore beautiful McClellan Park in the neighboring town of Milbridge or hike the trails on Pigeon Hill or in the Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge. Just 30 minutes away is the absolute "must see' of Acadia National Park's Schoodic Point with it's spectacular granite cliffs and crashing surf. This park has walking and bike trails and is much less crowded than the larger and more well know park to the south. 1 hour south is Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island and the wonders of Acadia National Park, which includes Cadillac Mt., Thunder Hole, Ocean Drive, the Bass Harbor Lighthouse, Jordan Pond countless hiking trails and the wondrous 40 miles of Carriage Roads (available only to foot traffic, bikers and horseback!) To the north you can drive 1 1/4 hours to hike the Bold Coast Trails at Cutler and then visit the West Quoddy Head lighthouse at Quoddy Head State Park. Don't forget to bring your passport to cross into Canada to visit the summer home of President Franklin D. Roosevelt on Campobello Island. With the cottage's central location on the DownEast coast you have many options to choose from when planning the day's events. You may just prefer to put your feet up and read a book on the deck. Maybe spend the day painting or let the camera lens capture the beauty. Whichever you choose, this is a perfect place to disconnect whether you are here for a peaceful retreat or a family adventure.

My family had an absolutely amazing stay here. Drinking coffee on the rocks overlooking the bay is something I would never get tired of. All my kids found something they loved about this place; from scrambling the rocks to looking for sea glass to watching the hummingbirds to seeing the Milky Way for the first time. And when my husband left his laptop at the house, the owner was quick to send a message before we were too far away. Fantastic slice of paradise.
This House was amazing. If you want a place that has nature, views, a place to enjoy friends or just to relax this is the place. Everything is perfect. It was clean, had everything in the kitchen. The best party was the Book the owners have put together with everything to see, eat, history etc. Thank you so much. And the best party they are Buffalo Bills Fans!!!!
We just got home from an amazing week in Maine. And this house and location made it special. Exactly as advertised and the view beats the description. Great location for heading north to Campobello or south to Acadia. Or just sit on the Adirondack chairs and read and take in the amazing setting. We hope to be back again next year.

We got away for a short holiday weekend and fell in love with this property. Everything was as they stated and the firepit on the rocks was as wonderful as we expected. Thank you for sharing your property with us!
The location of this property is fabulous! The views are stunning, the house itself is clean and homey. The location?? The location is perfect! Far enough away from Bar Harbor and Acadia that is peaceful and non touristy, yet close enough to be able to do those places and come back to a relaxing atmosphere! We loved it there
This home was so inviting! Felt welcomed from the minute we walked in. The owners have thought of everything that you could need for a perfect Maine vacation. The home was clean, very private. Numerous seating areas around the home to enjoy the bay and watch the lobster boats. Close enough to all the coastal attractions. Owner very quick to respond to questions. Would highly recommend!

We did not spend a lot of time at the property, as we were out most days hiking, kayaking and exploring, but it was exactly what we needed - a comfortable, clean and quiet cottage on the ocean to begin and end our day. Never turned on the television a single time; just enjoyed nature.

Thanks Dan, I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to our cottage and the rocky coast of Maine!
Gorgeous Place - even better than the pictures. Very thoughtful Hosts!!
We had an amazing time up at this waterfront, Maine property - only 15 min away from the Schoodic Acadia park and ~70min from the main Acadia parks. What really blew us away, however, was how thoughtful Bob was as a host -- there was a huge visitor's guide waiting on the dinner table and the house was stocked with everything you could want (grill, lobster pot, all the utensils, etc.). Amazing experience -- would 100% do it again.

So Beautiful!
Described as "beautiful and private" and that's exactly what it is! We really enjoyed our stay at this cottage in the woods on the beach. Mornings were so peaceful, having coffee on the deck with a nice cool breeze and so relaxing! Great way to start the day! The cottage was equipped with everything you could possibly need while on vacation! We loved it!

6 of us spent 7 days at Sunset Point. It was the perfect accommodation for four adults and two teens. We felt so at home here. The house was equipped with everything we needed and more. The kids enjoyed putting together one of the many puzzles. We all enjoyed the beautiful view of the bay, sitting on and exploring on the rocks and watching the changing tides. We even watched a seal fish in the bay, enjoyed watching a bald eagle and two hummingbirds. This property is perfectly located between Bar Harbor/ Acadia and other points of interest to the east. One of our favorites experiences at the house was having a campfire on the rocks.

Melissa, thank you for your kind words! I am so glad that your family enjoyed your stay at our cottage. Anytime you want to have another DownEast Maine experience you are welcome back!
We stayed at Sunrise to be far from but still close enough to Acadia for day trips. The cottage exceeded our expectations. It was a great place to come back and relax at. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the rocks and tide pools (us too). The house is very well stocked. Besides bringing our own food we had no reason to go to the store for anything. Bob was such a help prior to our trip with sending us helpful tips. If we are ever back in Maine (kids keep asking when we get to go back!) we will definitely try and stay here again!

Gorgeous Steuben Cabin
We loved our stay at this cabin. It is more of a beautiful home than a cabin, and the best we have ever stayed in. It was recently remodeled in beautiful wood paneling. The owners have thought of everything for your comfort. The towels, linen, silver ware and dishes were all top notch. The beds were all extremely comfortable as was the furniture. I have a bad back but never had any problems there. Every utensil and spice you could need was also there, and the porch had a large number of great chairs with cushions for a really comfortable time of reading or just watching the fishing boats. They also had a big HDTV with a great selection of cable. Didn't miss my football, although their cable tended to show more of those east coast teams over the Cowboys or Texans. It is the best cabin we have ever stayed at, and the nicest owners. GREAT stay!

Bob
I can't say enough good things about this cottage, or how homey it feels. Having grown up with family cabins in the northwoods of Wisconsin, this place immediately felt like home. Bob and his family obviously love the place, and it's in impeccable shape. It also gives the impression of being loved and shared, rather than being used as an investment property....meaning the house feels warm and welcoming and real, rather than stripped of all personal details like most vacation rentals are. In my eyes that's a huge plus. I only wish we lived closer so we could stay here every summer. We used this as our home base to explore Acadia, both the island and mainland portions. The drive to the Acadia loop is about an hour, but the Schoodic portion is very close. We enjoyed both immensely. Bob's recommendation of the Raven's Nest overlook was fantastic, and we were thrilled with the crashing waves at Schoodic Point. The house is set up marvelously, and you don't need to bring every little thing with you-- basics like cooking spray, spices, salt/pepper, shampoo/conditioner, laundry detergent, ice trays etc. were all there, and the fridge was spotless and empty (except for the hummingbird food, which our teens loved using in the hummingbird feeder). There are plenty of pots and pans and cooking utensils, though I would recommend a new nonstick pan or two. That's seriously the only thing! Everything here was absolutely ideal...a dream stay, honestly. Thank you for sharing it with us.
If you want to slow down and relax this is the place for you. The host, Bob was surprisingly generous. The location is sheltered from direct winds and waves from the ocean which moderates the temperature. We watched eagles and went to Chipman's Wharf regularly. There's not a lot to do in Steuben in September. That's just what we wanted.
The house smelled a little musty when we arrived. Opening the windows alleviated that. When we closed up at night I burned a candle in one of the bedrooms. Also a couple squirts of Febreeze air freshener solved the problem.
If you want to walk along the ocean you will have to go to a park. The beach is gorgeous but walking on it won't work.
The queen beds were very comfortable. One is softer and one is firmer.
The cupboards are well stocked.
We would definitely return to this property. The description was accurate. We loved our time in Steuben.
Perfect 25th anniversary hideaway during this COVID year!
My husband and I were supposed to go to Europe this Fall, but COVID-19 changed many plans this year. With Maine being on the bucket list, we thought that would be a nice second option but weren't quite as excited. But it was perfect. Staying at this cottage was absolutely wonderful. It was so cozy and nestled right on the water. I saw the mated pair of bald eagles staring at us sitting on a rock just to the left of the property in the water! I saw one fly into its nest while down on the rocks by the water but never expected to get to see them both. A dolphin actually swam by one day. A family of deer was there to greet us as we drove toward the house each evening. It was like being in a Disney movie. Just didn't get to see a moose. :) The leaves were brilliant. My husband and I loved sitting in the living room - very cozy with its comfy chairs and big windows. And the kitchen was very well appointed. I can't recommend staying here enough!

Lovely stay with a few issues
The property was very cute and rustic located in the woods right on the bay with your own private deck and access to the water. Upon arrival we noticed the bedrooms had cobwebs on the ceiling with spiders, even saw some go into floorboard cracks and dust covering dressers. We must have killed over 6 spiders the first night (only in the bathrooms & bedrooms). The kitchen & eating area were very clean. I took pictures & contacted the owner right away (11pm) full expecting we may not get a response until morning & he responded shortly after which I appreciated. However, the reply from the owner was not what I was hoping for, stating that this has never been an issue and would let the cleaning crew know. I guess I was hoping for more of an immediate action such as having the cleaning crew come the next day to clean & spray for peace of mind. I did not hear from the owner after that. There was a review from a few days before us with no issues so maybe we just looked closer than most. We shouldn't have to do this type of cleaning when arriving on vacation thus the cleaning fee. We were traveling since 3 am so it wasn't the best way to enter our vacation. We stay near a National Park every year in rustic settings so we aren't new to this type of setting. To sum it up, I do think this place and owner have all good intentions but I do believe the bedrooms need a deep clean and rooms be sprayed.
+private property, direct access to bay, deck seating, firepit by water, board games...
This was our first VRBO so we were a little unsure of what to expect. As soon as we walked in it really did feel like walking into a friend’s home. It was incredibly welcoming. The view from the backyard is majestic and this location is perfect to explore various points in Maine. We went up to Eastport and down to Bar Harbor finding fun things to do along the way.
We absolutely loved everything about this home. The property is beautifully situated on the bay with lovely seating areas to overlook the lobster boats, sea life and sunsets. The firepit is a must for quiet, magical evenings. Located away from the Bar Harbor crowds near the Schoodic side of Acadia, but close enough to spend a day or two on Mount Desert Island. The home is a quaint and complete cottage, with everything you could possibly need. It's evident that Bob and his family have put a lot of love into this home over the years, and I'm so happy that we could enjoy it for a week. We hope to be back!
My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing week in the cabin and thoroughly enjoyed the scenery. We saw deer in the yard the first morning we were there and loved the peaceful location. The cabin had everything you could possibly want, including a well-stocked kitchen with many staples. The owner was very accessible and was incredibly helpful in answering questions. We loved the cabin and plan to return!
This home was so welcoming and cozy. I felt right at home. The house and property are beautiful and the view is gorgeous. The house was very clean and well stocked. The owners provided lots of information on things to do and places to eat in the area. This was one of our most relaxing trips.
This place was really nice. Bob was really great about sharing information with us. Everything was just as described. We would definitely stay here again.
