A mid-century marvel nestled away in a creekside garden, this Rockridge oasis offers a retreat from the world while also being steps from the center of everything! A stately oak greets you at the entrance to this home, which beckons with vaulted beamed ceilings, dappled light, entrancing views of the ever-changing foliage, and architectural refinement at every turn. A sense of relaxation fills the space, whether you are working from the cubby-filled office just steps from the back deck or bathing in the sunken tub.
Once you arrive, you feel like you are in a world set apart, but the best of everything Oakland has to offer is just a few blocks away! The shops and restaurants that draw so many people to the Rockridge neighborhood is a five-minute stroll from the house. Get your coffee and pasta at Market Hall, your pizza from Zachary’s, your ramen and cocktails from the Ramen Shop, and stock up at Trader Joe’s or Safeway, both nearby. Or hop on BART and be in San Francisco in 20 minutes. But you may just want to stay home and enjoy the light and life through the skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows, or sit out on the deck that overhangs Temescal Creek and soak in the abundance of wildlife swimming or flying by.
The house offers 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, an office, central living and dining rooms for gathering, a well-equipped kitchen with breakfast nook, and a washer/dryer for your laundry needs. The sofa bed in the livingroom accommodates two guests. There are two off-street parking spaces. Route 24 is close to the house for easy access to anywhere in the Bay Area, but the property is set back and down enough to be surprisingly quiet. There is illuminated, level access from the street to the front door (one step up to the front landing); inside there are a few steps connecting different parts of the house.
Here, you can experience the leisurely pace and comfort of a place set apart to relax, enjoy the company of loved ones and good friends, reawaken the senses, and celebrate simple pleasures.
Come visit! We look forward to welcoming you.

We have had the most relaxing stay here. The house is a hidden treasure surrounded by trees, flowers, and a stream. It is simple and beautiful. The hosts are very responsive and helpful. Highly recommend!
Thanks for your kind words!
The house is indeed near to Highway 24, which we love for the access it gives us both down to the Bay and up into the hills and down Highway 13 for hiking.
You can definitely hear the highway when standing in the driveway, but once through the gate and behind the garage, it is much quieter, and even more so inside the house or down by the creek, where we rarely notice it at all.
Beautiful home in a great neighborhood. The outdoor patio is a very special spot with a stream flowing by. Loved it. Very peaceful. Kitchen was nicely appointed.
We spent a week for our daughter’s Berkeley graduation. The house is gorgeous. Clean and easy to keep clean. Hosts are generous, accommodating and attentive. We will definitely want to return!
Our family stayed over the holidays to meet our newest member, who was born on December 21! The house is great, comfortable and very well supplied with linens, towels, and a super kitchen. We enjoyed communing with the rainbow trout in the brook and exploring the neighborhood on foot. HIghly recommended.
We LOVED our stay. The house was gorgeous, clean and well equipped. You don’t feel like you’re in the middle of a big city being surrounded by beautiful trees and greenery. We especially loved the stream where we saw rainbow trout hanging around the entire stay. Short walk to several delicious restaurants. We especially loved Belotti. The food was amazing and the service was top notch. We can’t wait to come back!
This rental absolutely lives up to the description and pictures. If you’re looking for a quiet and peaceful escape in a stunning home surrounded by lush greenery then look no further! 10 out of 10 would highly recommend for a solo trip, a couple or small group. Staying on the property alone is a wonderful and relaxing experience. But it’s also very conveniently located to a number of delicious restaurants and shops on College Ave and the Bart station.
Karen (owner) and Robin (property manager) were incredible with communication and quick to assist with any questions. Definitely plan to return!
Smart architecture — you walk in the front door of this home (which is really near a freeway/college ave) and suddenly feel you are in a remote tree house. You can barely see a neighbor! It’s quiet and pretty and has everything you need. If you are traveling with two kids you might want to bring an air bed (we borrowed from a friend) if they want to share a room- there is a nice sofa bed in the living room though. Property manager is super lovely and helpful. We made a lot of great memories during our three week stay and would definitely stay again.
Everything about this listing turned out to be true to what was advertised. The home was well-maintained and well equipped. Everything was in place and clean when we arrived. The property manager, Patricia, was very responsive, and knew the answers to our questions. But for me, the best part was that the house feels like a treehouse! Lots of skylights to see the large oak trees over the property. The creek running alongside the property is very unique as well! Able to walk to restaurants and shops within 5 to 10 minutes. San Francisco is only 20 minutes away.

About the host
Hosted by Chris and Karen
My wife, Karen, and I both switched to working remotely in 2020. A year later the last of our children left for college and we decided to spend some time in the Bay Area where I grew up. My parents and my brother and his family live here. We loved our time in Oakland so much that we kept coming back and staying in different short term rentals. When our house, what we call our Rockridge Oasis, came on the market we went to see it on a lark. We fell in love and were lucky enough to be able to buy it. It will be the place where we will return for the months that we're able to be in Oakland. When we're not here we'd very much like to be able to share it with you
Why they chose this property
It's hard for pictures to do justice to this amazing house. When we asked someone to help us take pictures to post here she kept saying, "this house has no bad angles." Seemingly wherever you look there are windows and/or skylights. Some of the windows are floor to ceiling. The house is nestled in this lovely landscaping that you can see throughout the house. If it's recently rained the creek flows quickly and the sound adds a lovely ambiance. If it hasn't then it runs slowly enough for the fish to hang out.
What makes this property unique
Even though the feeling is serene and peaceful inside of our gate, right outside is the convenience of major roads and a few blocks from the house is College Ave with all of its fun shops and wonderful restaurants. We have stayed in several short term rentals as we got to know the area. The owners never stayed in the homes we rented. What we found, even in very expensive places, were subpar conditions that the owners probably never even knew about since it changed hands from one renter to another. We have engaged the help of a seasoned property manager who will set things right between all guest stays. And we will live there ourselves for several months during the year. We will keep a close watch on the quality of the living environment and make sure that it continues to be an oasis and our oasis too.
