About this property

Apeldoorn House - 25 min to downtown Asheville

Summary:

Welcome to your Black Mountain Retreat. This gorgeous home is nestled on pristine private land in the Blue Ridge Mountains, just minutes from downtown Black Mountain and 25 minutes from downtown Asheville. Designed for comfort and environmental stewardship, this hempcrete home was custom built by a master craftsman.

The Space:

Get ready to step into total serenity and peace at Apeldoorn House. Listen to birdsong and take in the gorgeous surroundings. Guests from all over the world have loved this magical space. They have likened it to a French country chateau or a cottage in the Cotswolds’ with a splash of Swedish décor. It has a European vibe!

This two bedroom, two bathroom house is fully stocked with all the comforts of home. After hiking, viewing the mountains, dining out, or visiting the nearby shops, enjoy movie watching in the living room or read a book by the fireplace . Inside dining or on the patio will allow you to bask in this exquisite location which is very private. You will be surrounded by trees, a beautiful garden, and nature. A babbling brook runs through the land. You may see a family of bears ambling through the yard. There are beautiful butterflies and hummingbirds to admire. Many guests love the outdoor space as much as the curated antique interior. Please note that this house has a maximum guest limit of 4 people including children. Please do not bring additional guests.

The large kitchen counter area, complete with overhead lighting and bar stools, doubles as a work area—ideal for catching up on emails or enjoying a quiet morning with coffee and your laptop.

Relax in the mountains at this landscaped property that features a large two level backyard with lawns and a bridge over the stream. There is lots of room for the kids to run , kick a ball around, and play in the stream. Enjoy two covered porches with outdoor seating—a perfect space for morning coffee, playing board games, outdoor dining, doing crafts, or reading a good book.

Apeldoorn House was thoughtfully designed by the homeowners to be an environmentally friendly house. Hempcrete is a composite of natural building materials. This type of building requires less power for heating and cooling. You’ll notice details like copper fixtures, a handmade copper range hood, 12” window sills, beautiful 150 year old kitchen cabinets salvaged from a Manhattan, NYC apartment building, drawers made from antique French panels, and old barn ceiling beams.

The place is the perfect setting to retreat to after touring Black Mountain, Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway, nearby waterfalls, hiking, shopping , and enjoying local breweries and restaurants. Check out “White Horse” Music Hall for all types of fantastic music. (see their schedule online).

The layout of the home is excellent for couples, friends, and families traveling together as the bedrooms are spacious and the open concept floorplan allows for cooking and lounging at the same time. Many have described it as elegant and modern, while feeling ultra cozy.

This home has an entire home water filtration system.

The Indoor propane fireplace is seasonal and will be OFF from May to October.
