About the host
Hosted by Austin Knepp
Hi, I’m Austin Knepp, owner of Knepp’s Country Customs. My company offers a range of services, including residential rentals, vacation homes, and storage facilities. Every property you see was custom-designed and built by my dedicated team. We also specialize in woodworking, renovations, and even full home flips.
I founded Knepp’s Country Customs in 2020 at the age of 16 when I bought my first property and did a complete renovation over the course of a year. I’m from Montgomery, Indiana, a small town where I grew up as the oldest with one younger brother. Both my parents are entrepreneurs, so it was only natural for me to aspire to own my own business. My mom turned the home she grew up in into a 15-resident assisted living facility, while my dad grew a custom cabinet business, eventually expanding from Indiana to Florida.
Outside of work, I’m an avid outdoorsman—whether it’s hunting, fishing, playing tennis and golf, or ATV riding. I also love to fly and hold a private pilot license. My true happy place is cruising above the clouds enjoying all of God's creation from a different perspective. Family is everything to me, and I enjoy anything that brings people together. That is the true motivation behind my company.
As a one-man operation, I take pride in offering personal service to all my clients. With Knepp’s Country Customs, you’ll always get the care and attention you deserve. No corporate management, you are always dealing with me!

Why they chose this property
My connection to Gatlinburg runs deep. When I was just 12 years old, my family took a vacation here that changed everything. We instantly fell in love with the beauty of the Smoky Mountains, the charm of the town, and the warm sense of community. During that trip, we stayed in a rental cabin and got to know the kind elderly couple who lived next door. Before we left, we gave them our contact information and jokingly said, “If you ever decide to sell, let us know—we’d be interested!”
To our surprise, just a few months later, they gave us a call.
That moment sparked the beginning of my family’s journey into vacation rentals. I helped my parents with every step of the process as we purchased and managed our very first property. I learned a lot—about hard work, hospitality, and what makes a truly memorable guest experience.
After years of saving and dreaming, I was finally able to purchase a property of my own at 18. Bearhug Hideaway is the result of that journey—from a spark of inspiration as a kid to a full-circle moment of creating a space where others can make their own unforgettable memories.
This isn’t just a business—it's personal. And I’m honored to share this special place with you!

What makes this property unique
This home is more than just a vacation rental—it's a labor of love. Built from the ground up in 2024, Bearhug Hideaway stands on the site of a house that was lost to fire. Over the course of a year, my family, friends, and I worked together to transform what remained into something truly special: a custom-built, state-of-the-art mountain retreat that blends craftsmanship, heart, and modern design. Every beam, board, cabinet, and fixture was handcrafted by myself, and the result is a space that’s not only beautiful but deeply meaningful.
