About this property

Lake Superior View · Sauna · Game Room · 3 Ensuites · Private 2 Acres

Three bedrooms, each with its own private bath. A cedar sauna, an 800 sq ft game room, and Lake Superior through the trees. Sleeps 8 on two private acres between Tofte and Lutsen.

Step onto one of three decks at sunset, light the fire pit, and let the evening take as long as it wants. Overlook Hus sits in a quiet association neighborhood, so evenings here are for the fire and the sauna, not outdoor music.

THE SETTING
A private, wooded two-acre lot just outside Tofte, with Lake Superior views out front and the Superior National Forest behind the house. Decks and big windows bring the woods inside. After dark the sky goes truly black.

WHERE YOU'LL SLEEP
Sleeping is easy for eight. Three bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom, so no one waits in the morning and no one sleeps on a sofa.
- Upstairs main suite: king and queen, gas fireplace, 75" TV and the best lake view in the house
- Upstairs queen suite: 50" TV and its own covered porch
- Main-level queen suite: 50" TV and no stairs
All three baths have rainfall showers, heated bidet seats and heated mirrors.

THE GAME ROOM
800 sq ft and heated, with an 85" smart TV and Sonos surround sound, ping pong, air hockey, foosball, shuffleboard and darts, plus a popcorn bar, puzzles, board games, its own kitchenette and a second fridge.

LIVING, KITCHEN AND DINING
The living room has walls of windows, a gas fireplace, deep couches and plenty of blankets, and no TV on purpose. The kitchen has a gas range, two refrigerators and everything down to the spices, oils and sharp knives. The dining table seats ten. The coffee bar has a Breville espresso machine, whole beans and Moccamaster drip coffee, with a tea station and a cocktail station alongside.

OUTSIDE
- Private cedar sauna in its own building, with a Harvia stove and room for all eight of you
- Outdoor shower for a cold rinse between rounds
- Long outdoor dining table and a Weber gas grill
- Solo Stove fire pit with 8 Adirondack chairs and 6 loungers, firewood provided
- Three hammocks in the pines, plus cornhole and bocce

WORK, BIKES AND SKIS
770 Mbps whole-home mesh wifi and two workstations. Bike storage, a repair stand with tools and a wash hose under the garage overhang. Boot and glove dryers in the game room.

WHO THIS HOME IS FOR
- Two families or three couples. Everyone gets a door that closes and a bathroom of their own.
- Friends on a ski, bike or hike trip who want a sauna waiting at the end of the day.
- Couples and small families who want real quiet and room to spread out.
- A few days of remote work from the woods.

GUEST ACCESS
The whole home is yours: every level, the game room, the sauna and the full yard, except two small locked supply closets. Self check-in with a smart lock at the garage door. We answer messages quickly, and no one lives on site, so the home is private to your group.

PARKING AND WINTER DRIVING
Free driveway parking for 3 vehicles, and a few more is fine for family groups. The home is on a quiet private road and the association plows after 3 inches of snow. In winter, please bring an AWD or 4WD vehicle.

HOUSE RULES
- 8 guests maximum
- Renters must be 25 or older and stay for the whole trip
- No parties or events, no smoking indoors, no pets
- Check-in after 4 PM, checkout by 10 AM
- Our home is in a private association with noise and light rules. Outdoor noise must stay low and outdoor music is not allowed. The association monitors this and Cook County enforces it.

A few honest notes about the deep woods: mosquitoes come out at dusk in summer and you may spot a harmless garter snake. It's the trade-off for a national forest at your back. There's no central air conditioning; shades, fans and cool North Shore nights keep the house comfortable.

Noise monitoring: this property uses decibel-only noise monitors inside and out to help us respond quickly to excessive noise and protect our neighbors' quiet. They measure sound level only, record no audio or video, and none are in bedrooms, bathrooms or other sleeping areas. Repeated excessive-noise alerts may result in a warning or, for severe or repeated violations, immediate check-out without refund.

Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

Lovely property and a wonderful host! Luke responded quickly to every question we had. The home had everything we needed and more. Our group of adults loved the game room and spent a lot of time there. The kitchen was well stocked with everything, from a coffee maker and espresso machine to coffee beans and a variety of teas. Our only complaint is that we didn't have enough time to enjoy everything it has to offer. We'd love to come back!

Wow, what a wonderful home to enjoy the North Shore. This home is spectacular! The hosts are avid outdoors people and it shows with all of the thoughtful touches in this family escape. Without a doubt this is the best VRBO I have ever stayed at. Wonderful interior design. A kitchen outfitted with a regular coffee machine, an espresso machine, a cool tea kettle, an array of tea choices and a cool array of coffee cups and of course all the pots and pans one could possibly need. Great beds, a large sauna, great fire pit, and on and on. The hosts were great in enabling us to change dates due to one of our group’s family health issues and responded quickly to any questions we had. As a builder I am accused by my traveling group (6 guys who celebrated our 37’th trip together) of being a bit “picky” about our lodging. Guilty as charged. This vacation home passed with flying colors.

Luke and Laura did an absolutely fantastic job with their property. From the design of the home to the little touches, and everything in between, it was perfect. We loved the game room after a day of skiing, and the kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms were all in great condition and so clean. We didn't even get a chance to test out the sauna, but would absolutely love to come back another time and try it out. This home was a step above the rest in the area and we'd absolutely recommend it to anyone!

We absolutely adored this property! It was our first time visiting the North Shore. The property offered the ability to relax and enjoy quiet time as a family - which was welcomed with as busy as life is - but there were so many great things to go and see if we chose to. The hosts were incredibly responsive to any questions we had before and during our stay. They provided updates to us in advance of our check in on anything we might have needed to know. Upon arrival we were thrilled with the small details that seemed so thoughtful throughout the house. Every bathroom was stocked with a drawer of small necessities just in case we had forgotten anything…. Toothbrushes, cotton swabs, etc. I found this to be incredibly helpful even though we brought almost everything we needed. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in the Tofte/Lutsen area to enjoy the quiet and peaceful property.

Laura and I met at University of Minnesota Duluth, and fell in love with Duluth and the North shore! This home in Tofte is our favorite place on earth:) Laura remodeled and designed this home with our 4 kids over 8 months. This is her creation. Happy to answer any specific questions in advance. We hike extensively, mountain bike and snowboard around 100 days a year. We are well traveled Airbnb guests. We know what a host should do to create a comfortable guest experience.

Why they chose this property

Super private association with incredible views of Lake Superior and the Superior National forest from every level. Plus close access to State Parks, Lutsen mountain, Tofte and Grand Marais. Noise and light pollution association rules make staying here an unusually restful retreat. Star gazing is worth the trip alone!

What makes this property unique

Private and quiet neighborhood, Thoughtful amenities, views from every level, and one incredible game room with kitchenette and 85 in TV with Sonos surround sound for movie night. The private sauna and outdoor cold shower bring soothing for muscles after long days on the trails in every season. Even with the wild weather moods of Lake Superior, you will have plenty to do in the game room and sauna!
