About this property

Cabin #3 - "Tamarack"

Cabin #3 - "Tamarack"
Named after a type of pine tree found in the Northern United States and Canada, this one is similarly named to its sister cabin. With the largest enclosed porch, this 2 bedroom, 490 sq ft cabin becomes a great gathering place.

This Vintage Rustic cabin, primarily designed for the camping & fishing enthusiast, is just one cabin of a 7 cabin resort. This cabin was built in the early 1930's and holds every bit of that vintage character. It may be a little rough around the edges but this authentic cabin holds the wonderful allure of days gone by. Electrical outlets would have been added a few years later and air conditioning wasn’t even thought of at that time. Those details won't matter to the outdoorsy kind coming for the camping experience where lake activity fills your day and evenings are enjoyed around the campfire. This charming cabin has a knotty pine interior and all the basics to create an Up North camping style atmosphere. A lifestyle one will appreciate becoming acquainted with.

All the cabins are lined up next to each other along the shore of a beautifully serene lake. This close proximity to other cabins have traditionally created a friendly community style atmosphere where guests mingle and create lasting friendships. This is the kind of place where your grandparents brought your parents, your parent’s brought you, and you are now bringing your children to create beautiful memories while spending a nostalgic vacation in a familiar old cabin.

The listed rate reflects the price for 4 adults or a family with children up to 6 people total. Additional adults beyond 4 will incur additional charges. This cabin has a sleeping capacity up to 6 people utilizing 2 bedrooms, each with a queen size bed and a futon in the living room. There's a kitchen with everything to cover your basic needs, a dinning space and a simple bathroom that includes a warm shower. The spacious 18’x7’ enclosed porch overlooking the lake is the perfect spot for an evening card game with friends.

Whether you are looking for a home base to camp at the lake or a base camp while you explore the area’s attractions, you will enjoy this cozy cabin and all its imperfections. More than anything, you’re gonna love the authentic charm and the carefree lifestyle that comes with camping Up North.

Pets are welcome on the property for an additional fee of $25 per night / per pet, paid at time of arrival if not otherwise paid. This includes pets of your visitors to the property.

Free Parking is available for 1 vehicle per cabin. 1 boat/trailer per cabin is also free but are required to be parked in designated area elsewhere on the property. Extra vehicles require a $25 per day fee and must also be parked in a designated area elsewhere on the property. This includes vehicles of your visitors to the property. Extra Vehicle fees will be collected onsite at the time of arrival if not previously collected elsewhere. RV's are not permitted.

Fun little Cabin. This Cabin is old 1920's but the character is so nice. When you set on the front pouch the lake is about 20 ft away. The view is amazing. Little dusty but clean. Beds comfy. We would stay again. Host " Richie" was very nice.. if you are looking for the rustic feel of a lake Cabin, this is it..

Great cabin on the lake

You have to meet the owner to check in - would have preferred a no contact check in so you don’t feel like you’re putting him out waiting for us to show up. Location is on the water and great vibe. Bathroom could be updated.

Amazing little cabin

We really enjoyed our stay and would 100% stay here again. The cabins are old and do need some work, but our overall experience was amazing. The view is great and super peaceful to sit out at night or wake up to in the morning. My kids absolutely loved it here too so that is an added bonus! Definitely recommend! And Richie was super friendly and a great host!

The lake outside your cabin and screened in porch were highlights of our 2-night stay. The condition of the cabin and accommodations were a bit disappointing. Updated mattresses, regular coffee pot (not a Keurig with no mention of needing pods), improving kitchen cookware, a good cleaning and fresh paint would make this cute place much more enjoyable.

The only real complaint was the shower, which the curtain allowed water to spray onto the floor during showers.

Great cabin for guy’s weekend

Really good location. Right on Carp Lake where you can view some great sunsets. Also a short drive to Wilderness State Park. Cabin was super nice and even had wifi and a smart TV. It was a perfect place for guy’s weekend. The owner Ritchie was very nice. Would recommend like others have said to bring extension cords or power strips if you think you’ll be using them as outlets are limited. But we really enjoyed our stay and will most likely be back.

Rough around the edges

It was a great location - right on the water. The cabin was rustic. Shower and toilet were less than I hoped for. Lock on front door was hard to lock from inside. And, there was no secure lock on back door.

We were not impressed. It needs a better cleaning. Need to go around and fix or replace broken or defective items. Entry door has an obvious gap. There is no lock on the interior door, which gives anyone access to your unit from the somewhat screened in porch. Overall the unit needs some TLC.

RusticFive stars for what it is. Quiet and secluded. Family friendly. Mostly bare bones cabin with incredible, picturesque views of Carp Lake and a 10 minute drive to the ferry for Mackinac Island. The heat worked VERY well. The A/C was there but it was not needed during our stay.Check in is antiquated and could easily be resolved with a lock box or a key pad. The actual check in instructions were not explicit on the listing. It was apparent the day before check-in that check in is between 4:00pm-6:00pm. While we were able to make this work, it's outdated. The shower could use a slight upgrade. My wife and I were able to figure it out. But, our son and daughter cleaned the floor while taking a shower. If the shower head is faced slightly in a different direction, find the nearby mop. It sort of because a cleaning task. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. He went out of his way to purchase a missing k-cup adapter for our cabin and provide a wealth of information about the area. The firepit with the cooking grate was perfect. We smoked some fish and veggies during our stay. The area itself and proximity to the main attraction paired with the price is unbeatable. We would stay here again with the knowledge we have regarding this property. I'd like to thank the owner for the accommodations. Would stay again.

Born and raised in Northern Michigan, I’ve worked with the special needs community for over 30 years. By recently purchasing a little 7 cabin lakefront resort, I was able to transition my career to incorporate my love for camping, outdoor activity, and local history in a way I can share with others. I offer vacation rentals of vintage rustic lakeside cabins that were established in 1929. I welcome guests who love the camping experience while venturing to the Mackinac area historic sites, adventurers who come to enjoy outdoor activities, or those who are simply here to relax and enjoy the area’s natural beauty.

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with this property because it encompasses the style of vintage cabins from days gone by, back when times were simpler. The cabins offer the nostalgic feel of the camping experience I remember enjoying as a child.
