About this property

Duck Cottage, South Creake, Norfolk

A beautifully furnished, traditional 1890's detached brick and flint cottage, with two cosy wood burning stoves and fully enclosed landscaped garden. Set in the pretty village of South Creake, situated close to the affluent village of Burnham Market and just a few minutes' drive to the gloriously vast coastline of North Norfolk.

Duck Cottage is an attractive and spacious traditional Norfolk cottage, exquisitely located for exploring and enjoying all that Norfolk has to offer. Furnished throughout with high quality furniture and bedding, both the sitting room and dining room feature cosy wood burning stoves to snuggle up in front of when the days are cooler. Upstairs you have a choice of three attractive bedrooms; two spacious king-size bedrooms and one bunk room. The safe and fully enclosed rear garden has a large lawned area with terrace with garden furniture. As the garden is south-west facing you can enjoy the glorious sunshine whilst the children and dogs play to their hearts content.

South Creake boasts a large village green, two hireable tennis courts, a playing field and children's playground, a music school where you can book and enjoy regular classical concerts, and a spectacular church. The stream that runs through the village is the meeting point for the vivid plump of ducks that make South Creake their home - hence the cottage is aptly named! On the first Saturday of the month head to the neighbouring village of North Creake to attend the bustling farmer's market. All year round nearby Creake Abbey has plenty of shops.

There is off-road parking for one large car at the cottage.

Lovely cottage

We very much enjoyed our short stay at Duck Cottage. It is a lovely spacious cottage (we are a family of 4 so the kids had their own rooms). Perfect location for exploring north Norfolk. The cottage could do with a tiny bit of TLC - couple of windows need attention, maybe a blind in the upstairs bathroom (?) and the extractor fans need a bit more oomph. Cottage was lovely and clean though, garden a nice addition and perfect for the kids. I imagine its very cosy in the winter with the woodburners going.

Perfect cottage for young children

We had a lovely week at Duck Cottage with our 1 and 3 year olds. The cottage is a perfect layout for young children, and the boxes of toys were a pleasant surprise. The cottage had everything we needed like high chairs and cot. A stairgate would have been useful however. Perfect location for exploring so much of Norfolk, only 15 minutes to various beaches or plenty of places to explore inland. The village itself is lovely, with a playground we visited every day and very much enjoyed the ducks and ducklings.

Good location but a little disappointing

good location could have been cleaner - downstairs loo had not been cleaned & cottage was pretty dusty there was mud on carpet & chocolate on the sofa when we arrived There were also light bulbs out & not enough spare to replace ourselves We understood that we would have some essential groceries for the first day - we therefore thought there may have at least been a loaf of bread & a pint of milk - although lovely, a bottle of prosecco & Easter eggs were not what we thought of as essential. Although cottage hd been occupied the previous week it smelt very damp & there was lots of condensation - no extractor in the bathroom mattress in small double definitely needs replacing

The Duck Experience!

Duck cottage located in lovely village of South Creek with a pub within walking distance serving good pub grub. Nights were cool so we took the liberty of lighting the log fire creating a warm, cosy ambience. Everything was to hand at Duck Cottage, nothing was forgotten in the way of amenities. Aptly named with the local ducks often wandering into the garden!

Happy cosy stay in Duck Cottage

We had a week’s holiday at Duck Cottage at the end of July and would thoroughly recommend it! The cottage is very cosy but surprisingly spacious – idea for our 3 little girls to play hide and seek in! They also loved the toys and books in the cottage that had been left for them to play with. The cottage is very comfortably but stylishly furnished – the big comfy beds were lovely at the end of busy days spent outdoors. The kitchen is really well equipped and it was great having a separate utility area with WC, sink, washing machine and microwave. The enclosed garden is charming and again very spacious. Duck Cottage is really well located – we did lots of day trips and got everywhere very easily. South Creake itself is very pretty – we fed the ducks a couple of times and the playground proved invaluable. As did the local pub where my parents stayed when they joined us for a day or two. Also, we found the neighbour in the cottage adjacent to Duck Cottage really helpful and friendly. We’d definitely stay here again – it felt a bit like home from home – ideal when the weather determines that you stay inside!

Not up to standard

The house needs to be cleaned properly . There was mould under the coffee machine and dust along all the skirting boards in drawers etc. the upstairs toilet made a consistent dripping sound and the hot water was not always available The house was freezing when we arrived as the batteries in the thermostat were not working The house is also too noisy from the traffic that passes the windows and wakes you up at 5 in the morning . Proper double glazing is needed if you expect people to have a restful nights sleep
