About this property

Summer and winter retreat 3 bedrooms - 2 bathrooms

Gorgeous Hatepe house, only a minute's walk to Lake Taupo, the beach and, the Hinemaiaia River - renowned for trout fishing. The perfect place to relax and unwind in winter and summer. Large kitchen, living room has a cosy wood fire (fire wood supplied), seperate dining, three bedrooms and two bathrooms and toilets. The large deck is set in picturesque grounds that are filled with birdsong year round and allows for outdoor living in the summer.

The area has loads of activities for all ages. Enjoy a tennis game on the community tennis court. Launch your boat, jetskis or kayaks from the village's private boat ramp and enjoy a day on the lake. Walk, run, or bike along the world famous Hinemaiaia River. Bring nets for the kids to catch the small fish. Or swim at the beaches and enjoy the crystal clear water. Or just relax on the deck and enjoy the birdlife!

Only 15 minutes drive to Taupo for a hit of coffee or a spot of shopping, cafe's/restaurants and a multitude of activities for all ages.

In the winter the fishing is fantastic, there are several hot pools to choose from, or commute to the Whakapapa ski fields for skiing, snowboarding or hiking.

Our batch is compact but roomy so can fit a large family or group no problem. Two rooms have space for a mattress or a stretcher bed which would increase capacity to 8 - renters to supply own additional beds.

Special conditions:

Smoking allowed outside only. Pets not allowed as there is no fencing.


NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to:
***Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave. This is a self cleaning bach. This is a house rule and must be adhered to.

Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels). Take all rubbish with you when you leave.

Hatepe is a magic atmosphere but not crowded or overrun with jet skis. The property allow us to enjoy the benefits of the area and be comfortable at the same time.

Best alternative to a hotel in Taupo

Seems close to SH1 on the map but you almost don’t hear it. Somewhat old style (a.k.a. not a fancy McMansion), but very cosy - also on a rainy day. Well equipped kitchen. Could easily host 6 people. Would definitely book it again.

This place has a great feel to it... there's a bit of character on top of everything you need. Such a great location in this cute township by the lake with Taupo shops nearby. Our teenagers enjoyed the local tennis court and we loved the little local river walk. Would happily return. Friendly locals too! It was a cold time of year, but the fireplace was a charm. Could do with a heater in the lounge too for some instant heat on arrival, but other than that it's hard to fault. Grateful for the family memories it provided. :)

Nice location but needs a refresh

Great location and the kids enjoyed being so close to the lake. The downstairs area is nice and light but bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs are very aged and need a refresh. Would have also loved some electric heating in the lounge as we didn't want to have to deal with cleaning out and resetting the fire.

Loved staying at this bach. Just a few mins walk to the lake in lovely Hatepe. Old school but with plenty of everything we needed for a very lovely stay including very comfy beds.
