My family and I had the Best Vacation in this Fantastic Home. I wish there was a higher rating for everything for this property. The hosts Ned and Nick are such Kind and Amazing people their team truly goes above and beyond to ensure your time there is Awesome. It was everything promised and so much more. I can not say enough Great about how they Positively and Honestly Impacted Our Time there...simply be being who they are. Lucy
Beautiful house on a gorgeous property! Host was incredibly welcoming and provided a ton of recommendations for our stay. House is close to everything! Saw seals, eagles, deer and mink from the house! Easy access to Acadia and downtown Bar Harbour.
We had a lovely week at this well cared for home on the coast. The house manager welcomed us and was very nice and helpful. We had the honor of meeting the owners who happened to be in town. They really care about making your stay as awesome as possible and had great suggestions for places to go and things to see. The morning light in this home is glorious. Location was perfect for us. Close to everything but tucked away from the crowds.
This home was the perfect site for our recent family vacation. We were 5 adults and a dog. A definite bonus was having an en suite bathroom for every bedroom. We don't always get that luxury on vacation. Easy to get to Bar Harbor downtown and Acadia National Park sites. The dog loved watching the boats in the water from the living room windows. The owner and property manager were both accessible and easy to deal with. We also enjoyed seeing foxes, a fawn and its mother along with other deer, plenty of seals in the water, cormorants on the rocks, and, a real bonus, a bald eagle right on the property!
I booked Sound of the Sea to propose to my girlfriend (now fiance) and surprise her with her family coming up to stay with us for the week, but I couldn't have anticipated the generosity of Ned and Emily in dedicating their time to making it a perfect proposal and perfect surprise!
I can't fit everything they did for us in this review, but I want to assure you that you couldn't ask for more thoughtful and generous hosts for your trip.
Oh! And the house and property is stunning as well! I proposed on the rocky shoreline just feet from their home, and it was perfect. Truly a vacation and experience that will be with us for the rest of our lives!
Thank you Ned and Emily!!

It was such a privilege to participate in your surprising Ellen with your proposal by the ocean, and then with further surprising her with the presence of her family! We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you, Ellen and her family, and hope to connect with you all in the future.
May you and Ellen enjoy many decades of a happy, fulfilling marriage and family.

It was me, two young adult sons, and one of their girlfriends. We didn’t bring any pets. I know this is a pet friendly property, but they keep it beautifully clean, so there’s no evidence of past four legged visitors. They added some very sweet extra touches to make us feel quite welcome.
There is no denying that the ocean is your next door neighbor here. There are views from every room and you can hear the waves crashing.
Our stay was marred by unseasonable heavy fog and rain (like a once every 20 years type weather event), but we were comfortable inside and were able to enjoy the constant presence of the sea. I hope we’ll be able to return to Maine to see what we missed this time and we’d definitely like to stay at Sound of the Sea again.
It is apparent immediately how much the host cared about us and our experience for the week. The little, and not-so-little, extras are a warming touch that made us feel at home.
This is a beautiful home with all the luxury options. There is no denying that the star of the house is the ocean. Whether we were sitting on the rocks outside drinking coffee, viewing from the home while eating dinner, or just listening while dozing off to sleep, it was the most peaceful and centering part of our trip.
The town of Bar Harbor offered so much to do, we couldn't do it all! July 4 fireworks from the harbor, whale watching, sailing, hiking in Acadia, and shopping in the town. But you will want to save plenty of time to spend at Sound of the Sea, relaxing with friends and family, drinking wine, eating well, and enjoying the ocean!
We can't wait to return!
We've been to Bar Harbor many times in the if this visit was extra special due to this property. There are very few places that offer this combination of proximity to the town, Acadia, oceanfront, dog friendly, plus a great layout for a family. The kitchen is beautifully stocked with anything you might need. The owners were extremely responsive and went above and beyond to share their suggestions on how to have a great vacation. But honestly, sitting at the dining table with the windows open to hear, smell and see the ocean waves felt like all the entertainment we needed.
I will add one small detail - entering the house does require going down a set of stone steps (with your luggage), as the house is set on a hill. Not an issue at all for us, but something to consider if anyone in your group has mobility challenges.
I always know I really love a place when I want to keep it a secret! Thanks to the owners for sharing their home in what we feel is one of the most special places in the world.
Location was incredible. Bar Harbor is quite active and busy. The home is located just minutes from downtown Bar Harbor and minutes from Acadia entrance but it is tucked away from the busyness. You feel like you have your own waterfront getaway. The views from the home overlooking the bay are great. The hosts are first class. At check in they walked us through all the amenities of the home and were assessable for questions and for recommendations throughout our stay. Great experience overall.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience at Sound of the Sea. The house had everything we needed, and the attentiveness of the hosts exceeded our expectations. The location can’t be beat. Close to town, but secluded with unbeatable ocean views. By far our favorite part of the stay was enjoying those amazing and private ocean views. Hours were spent spotting seals, watching the boats and taking in the sound of the waves. Overall, we had an amazing experience at the home, in nearby Bar Harbor, and Acadia National Park.
Beautiful house, spectacular location, with ocean views!
This house was so comfortable and had so many extras; outfitted kitchen, house supplies, a/c, even a dog crate, and blue tooth stereo system, it made staying here so easy. Also, the house was decorated beautifully.
The rooftop deck, was great during morning, afternoon and star gazing hours!
The ocean and the rocks right in the backyard made for a very inviting sitting and exploring spot. And hearing the waves crash at night made sleeping an experience in itself! The location right between Bar Harbor center and Acadia National Park
made driving anywhere quick and easy.
The owners are wonderful to deal with, and shared tons of information about the area and things to do and places to eat.
I highly recommend this property.
Five Stars and beyond!
Beautiful location just south of Bar Harbor. Tranquil neighborhood and efficient home. 75 ft from the shoreline and you can hear the waves all night. We enjoyed our stay!
This property is absolutely beautiful, well kept and in an unbeatable location. The hosts are gracious, kind and accommodating as well as efficient. The listing is completely accurate. The location of the property couldn't be better in terms of its proximity to the ocean, the park and the town. The hosts really make sure you have everything you need both before and during the stay. Their knowledge and support is an extra bonus for the rental.
We rented Sound of the Sea for three weeks in July 2021 and can’t say enough about the location of the property and the beautiful ocean views. Also about the responsiveness of the owner. We had a relatively minor issue with the well and he was incredibly attentive and on top of addressing the issue. He also provided a number of nice surprises during our stay which were very thoughtful and much appreciated. The property has a lot of stairs - granite steps down to the house from the parking pad and then stairs up the second floor, where the bedrooms are, and more stairs up to the third floor which is where the television is (yes, there are TV’s in the bedrooms, but as a group, the only place to watch is third floor and only streaming video, (which was fine) - if you were all the way up there and wanted something to drink, you had to go down two flights of stairs and then make your way back up again. Certainly got my steps in (!) but just thought this was something for prospective guests to know - wasn’t clear from the listing. Also, only deck is off the third floor as well. Otherwise, there are a few chairs to use sitting in the woods or you can sit out on the rocks. Loved that all the BR’s had King beds and the kitchen is extremely well-outfitted!
There is something delightful about looking out to sea. This house is very close to the water and fairly private. The only other house is on a hill above it and was unoccupied at the time of our visit.
There are stairs you have to take down to the place and a hand rail would have been good but from what I understand there are still projects to be done so perhaps that is one of them.
The beds were firm and comfortable, toilets are high rise, kitchen was well stocked. There were soaps for kitchen , dishwasher, baths and laundry which is very helpful.
A lovely stay.
Everything was spectacular! Thank you edward and nick. We are infrequent Vrbo renters and didn’t know what to expect. Upfront, lots of communication. After we arrived, lots on info. We had a list of nick and edward’s favorite things and we went on the gorham hike (which we probably wouldn’t have done) because of their recommendation.
We were a little worried because my wife is allergic to dogs and the home is dog friendly. Tina did a great job of cleaning everything extra thoroughly and we didn’t have an issue. We hadn’t been to Acadia before and didn’t appreciate the importance of location. There is a brief comment in the listing about being close to bar harbor vs some other listings that are on the quiet side of the island. We didn’t appreciate the importance of this until we arrived. The home is located less than 2 miles from bar harbor and provides the best of both worlds: very quiet but still close to everything. While we did go to the quiet side twice, it’s much better imho to be near bar harbor.
As for the home it has almost everything one could want. From the colorful interior (instead of boring white), to the pots and pans,, washer dryer, etc , the house had everything we wanted or needed. The views of the water were amazing and although with the windows open, it sounded like rain every night, it was the “sound of the sea”. The home is very open and my wife used the living room as an office while I used the crows nest. It gave us the work while on vacation.
We enjoyed the third floor (crows nest) and watched the sunset and had a glass of wine there.
Thanks again for enabling us to have a great time and provide a respite from these difficult times.
This property has the advantage of being only minutes from downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park but is at the end of a private road and removed from the congestion of the village. Beautiful setting on rocky shoreline.
