Liked: Cleanliness, amenities, property conditions & facilities, communication
Janet, the host, is super-friendly. The cottage is in a stunning location with a brilliant pub near by. And you have all the facilities you could ever want -- a very thoughtfully kitted out holiday home.
We loved our stay in the cottage! The family is very nice and made sure we had everything we needed. The house is remote what we like and we made wonderful walks from our doorstep. The Blacksmith Arms is a good pub and in walking distance. We enjoyed the scenery, the sheep and little lambs, the fireplace and the well equipped kitchen. We recommend this cottage to anyone who loves nature but also loves to be comfortable 😊
A small but perfectly formed cosy property in a stunning part of the Lake District. The underfloor heating was a bonus for drying off soggy shoes and we loved the fact that you could do beautiful walks from the door.
Very clear communication and comfortable stay. Situated in a remote part of the Lakes, it was wonderful being surrounded by the sounds of birds and babbling brook. We also had a cosy evening in front of the log fire.
We have stayed before and so glad we came back, it was a lovely birthday surprise for my daughter. The property is amazing and in a great location, there is everything you might need, like a home from home. This time we sampled the local pub too, all I can say is wow, a beautiful country pub with amazing food at a very good price. We will definitely be back again. Thank you Janet.
Beautiful clean cottage, very rural. Very spacious host on hand if needed but not intrusive. Everything in the cottage you need for a comfortable stay. Very quiet location. Lots to do in the area with a short drive. Enjoyed our stay would stay again. Very comfy beds lots of bathrooms, full size kitchen.
This was a fantastic cottage to stay in, which was both close to attractions and local amenities, but also felt secluded at the same time.
Interior was clean, we had plenty of space, and facilities were exactly what we needed to relax and enjoy our time there. Comfy beds, quality linen and everything in the property was ready to go and working without any fuss. It was absolutely perfect for what we wanted.
Just as described. Fantastic location and perfect cottage. Well equipped and the owner very helpful but unobtrusive. The pub is a must visit for the food and character. We loved our few days there and would happily return.
Only downside is WiFi is intermittent, but it was nice to be free of that for a while. Definitely recommend this cottage

Very comfortable and cozy, well equipped in lovely countryside.
We stayed for three nights and came away wanting to stay longer.
The cottage was clean and comfortable in a very pretty part of the Lakes. Great for a cozy night in by the Log burning stove, or a pleasant walk to the village pub which offers really great food and well kept ale.
We are very happy to recommend.

Cosy and well maintained
A really cosy and well turned out property. Fixtures and fittings to a very good standard and excellent well appointed kitchen with full range of equipment. Great having a back door into scullery/utility room for muddy boots. Loved having the fire on, a real treat. Owner very friendly, helpful and accessible when the kitchen smoke alarm decided to go off for no particular reason! I did mention that the hot water didn't seem to last long enough to have a full bath :( but I would go back and stay in this cottage.

A good cottage, unfortunately we had to leave early
The Cottage has a rustic charm, Janet is a very welcoming hostess.
The Cottage is well equipped in the kitchen and utility room, The Blacksmiths Arms is a super pub in the village, unfortunately during winter due to the cottages remoteness it would not be an easy walk to visit (we drove the car).
The parking situation could be improved however as Janet said there will soon be a new road to the cottages replacing the farm track hopefully the parking can be addressed then.

A warm and friendly retreat
Although it’s slightly bumpy ride along the final km to Martha’s Cottage, what a delightful place to stay. The gîte is set on one side of a courtyard which is shared with the family who work this fully operating hill farm. The underfloor heating, as we stepped shoeless onto the sitting room carpet, felt immediately welcoming; along with the warm smile of our host Janet, we knew we were in for a pleasant stay. The kitchen is well equipped, the two shower rooms were impeccably clean and our own double bed wonderfully comfortable. The upstairs bedroom, had we required it, would have been a perfect hideaway, with its own bathroom. It’s only a 15-minute walk to the local pub, also a place of charm, with log fires and friendly staff. There’s lots of local walking too, although we opted for the short 25-minute drive over Ulpha for an ascent of Scafell Pike. On our return an unexpected bottle of wine awaited us, kindly bought by Janet, who’d tuned into the fact that we were celebrating a birthday. Our only regret was that we were only there for three nights - next time we must stay for longer.

Very rural but pretty much perfect
Booked as a base for a cycling weekend in the Lakes with a group of friends
This cottage is lovely... It has clearly been recently renovated to a high standard. Beautifully clean and tidy and with the exception of missing an oven glove (my only negative... Sorry) it had everything that we would have expected!
The Blacksmiths Arms pub is a comfortable walk and was very welcoming with excellent food.
Be aware that it is in a very rural location but this was a bonus for us as it was exceptionally quiet.
Lovely lovely lovely
