About this property
East San Roque Tudor Revival Walking Distance to Everything
Experience the quintessential Santa Barbara neighborhood by staying as our guests in our family home. The house was built in 1930, and has been extensively remodeled including the bathrooms and the kitchen. There is Eeros Mesh enhanced WiFi and it's reliable and fast. All 3 bedrooms are large, airy, and full of light. The Sunroom connected to the kitchen is the place to hang out with it's French doors (3) and 4 large windows. Off the Sunroom is a redwood deck w/ umbrella, and a comfortable and colorful patio with seating and umbrellas.
The neighborhood is walking distance from restaurants, grocery stores, Trader Joes, liquor stores, nail salons,etc..We are less than a mile from Santa Barbara Municipal Golf Club. ALL of this a few blocks from our quiet neighborhood.
PLEASE READ: My wife and I have a small and separate cottage at the rear of the property, that we stay in while you are our guests in the main house. We occupy the carport which is attached to our unit, and far back patio as well. Access to the detached laundry is provided. We use the driveway to access our unit and carport. Street parking in front of the house is readily available. ALSO: This is not a kid friendly property, nor is it a party friendly property. We are very respectful of our neighbors and encourage our guests to be the kind of neighbor they would like living next to them.

This is the perfect house for a stay in Santa Barbara. Walking distance to everything you would need. The house is beautiful and very clean! The host is above and beyond, just a really easy and cool place to stay. 10/10!
Great stay, warm welcome from the host in person. Cottage had everything we needed, comfortable beds and linens, well appointed throughout, amazing neighborhood and location!!
Had a great stay at this lovely home. We had plenty of space for our group pf 6 ladies. You can feel the warmth and thoughtfulness of the hosts with the decor and amenities. I especially loved the tree that envelopes their front yard, we were awe with it. Rodney was very responsive and so welcoming as we checked in. Would stay here if we’re in the area again. Thank you!!
We had a wonderful stay at this adorable VRBO! The home was very clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed during our trip. The neighborhood was quiet, charming, and felt very safe and relaxing. The location was about 3 miles north of Downtown Santa Barbara, which worked perfectly for us since we brought our bikes and enjoyed riding into town and along the waterfront each day.The host was extremely kind, responsive, and readily available if we needed anything, as they lived in the ADU onsite. We really appreciated their hospitality while still feeling like we had plenty of privacy during our stay.We would absolutely stay here again and would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Santa Barbara!
We had a wonderful stay here for my birthday weekend! The home is located in an absolutely beautiful, quiet neighborhood and was even larger and more impressive than we expected. The house was exceptionally clean, beautifully furnished, and very comfortable. I especially loved the gorgeous stained-glass windows in the living room when the morning sun came through them. The landscaping and yard were also immaculate. The location was great—we could walk to several restaurants and wine tasting rooms. Our host met us at check-in, gave us a helpful tour, and was incredibly kind and accommodating. He even allowed us to check in an hour early since we arrived in Santa Barbara by train, which we really appreciated.A couple of minor things to note: the home contains quite a few of the owners’ personal belongings, so at times it felt a little more like staying in someone’s personal home than a typical vacation rental. We also had a few trails of ants in our bathroom, although it was unusually hot during our stay, with temperatures in the mid-90s. There are several window AC units in the home, but only one of the bedrooms had one, so the heat was noticeable.Overall, this was genuinely one of the most beautiful homes I’ve rented through VRBO. We had a fantastic weekend and would absolutely stay here again!

Thank you Lisa. We really enjoyed hosting and talking with you and Ed. We are hoping we will see you again and Educators Rule!!
The home was beautiful, with a great location and great price. Our biggest disappointment (Bachelorette Trip) was that the owners were on site; I didn't see that in the listing, and we were really disappointed because we didn't feel like we had the place to ourselves. They could literally hear everything that was being said. The outdoor patio space, despite them telling us we could use it - didn't provide any sort of privacy so we opted to simply stay inside the house when we were "home." We were told we had 2 dedicated parking spots, but really we had street parking with 2 spots in front of their house that were not always available. We could not park in the driveway because that was their access to the rear ADU. They live in the main house full time, and then stay in the ADU when the house is rented out. So just a little weird feeling that we were staying in someone's house vs their VRBO rental. If you are okay with the parking, and owners being onsite than I highly recommend this rental as it is a beautiful home in a wonderful neighborhood.

Wow. I'm so sorry that Katie did not read our listing. It addresses everything she mentions in the listing regarding parking, the driveway, and Cindy and I being on-site. Katie also had a party of 7 when our listing is very clear about 6 guests maximum. It was a Bachelorette PARTY. We explicitly forbid parties of any kind in our listing. Katie pretty much ignored everything in our listing and caused my wife and I great consternation. By the way... it would be impossible to hear anything said in the house from our ADU, besides the fact they ran the A/C units 24/7.
I absolutely agree that our house was not a good fit for Katie's Bachlorette PARTY, and there are reasons for that. If she had read the ad/listing perhaps she could have found a place better suited to her needs. I would have gladly refunded her entire stay immediately when she rolled up rather than take the hit in my ratings from someone who was looking for something we clearly, and clearly advertised, did NOT provide.
The home was very comfortable, spacious and very clean. It is in a very pretty as well as very quiet neighborhood that is easy access to local restaurants and shops and local attractions.
Our family of 6 was in Santa Barbara for a family wedding. This was a perfect house and location for us. House is well maintained and Rodney was a very gracious host and we enjoyed spending some time talking and learning about the area. If we ever get back to the area would definitely stay there again!
I’m sad that we only stayed for two nights because this space really felt like a home away from home! We were in town to visit family and attend a wedding and we were very comfortable. We appreciated the double sinks in the main bathroom, that was so helpful! Rodney and Cindy were amazing hosts!
This is a beautiful house in a quiet neighborhood. Easy to navigate and not far from anything. Rodney was a great host.

I am a retired General Contractor and Cabinetmaker, and my wife is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist w/ a private practice in downtown Ventura. I do some construction consulting work, and am an adjunct instructor at SBCC in the Construction Technology Department. I have lived in this house since 1985, and in Santa Barbara since 1968. Before I started my contracting/cabinetmaking business, I was an abalone and sea urchin diver, and spent 5 years diving all around the Channel Islands, and our coast as far north as Point Conception. My wife and I travel a lot, and when we are in Santa Barbara, we live in our guest cottage behind our house when we have VRBO guests.
Why they chose this property
This home was the family home of a good friend. I purchased it from her mother who was ready to move. My friend said to me one day...."You need to buy my parent's house." I did.
What makes this property unique
Our San Roque neighborhood is a unique tract of land that was surveyed and planned in 1923 as "Rutherford Park" and revolves around "The Argonne Circle". Stephen Rutherford came to Santa Barbara in 1872, and was quite the shrewd real estate investor and a very successful farmer. Our house was built in 1930 on one of the streets that ends at the Argonne Circle which Stephen and Agnes Rutherford named after their son who was killed in the Argonne Forest in WWI. Stephen and Agnes' 2 story home 1 block over is still as stately as ever. The neighborhood is all one of a kind homes. Virtually no two alike. Hope you get to walk the neighborhood.
