About this property

Historic Maine Farmhouse on 14 Acres – Fireplaces, Forest, Dark Skies

Historic Maine Farmhouse on 14 Acres – Fireplaces, Forest, Dark Skies

Dating to the early 1800s and thoughtfully modernized, this historic Maine farmhouse offers a rare combination of authenticity, comfort, and deep quiet. Set on 14 acres of forest and meadow in rural Waldoboro, the property provides privacy and space while remaining close to Damariscotta Lake and the Midcoast’s coastal towns.

In spring and early summer, the woods and fields come alive with fresh green growth and long, quiet days. Guests can explore the coast and nearby towns, then return to a peaceful setting with cool evenings by the fire. The home is well suited to guests looking to slow down, disconnect from the city, and experience Maine across all four seasons.

The original house retains its wide pine floors, exposed beams, and working fireplaces, while a substantial addition (“the Barn”), completed in the 1980s, provides additional space, light, and modern systems. The result is a home that feels rooted in history but functions comfortably year-round.

The House

The main living areas are warm and inviting, centered around original fireplaces and wood-burning stoves. A dedicated library and reading room with built-in bookshelves offers a quiet place to read or write, while the main living room is suited for conversation, board games, or evenings by the fire.

The barn living space provides a large, open, and airy area with high ceilings, natural light, and additional room to relax or work.

The kitchen is large, bright, and fully modernized, with ample counter space and contemporary appliances. It is well suited for real cooking, not just reheating. A dining area looks out over the lawn and gardens.

Sleeping arrangements include:
• Two private bedrooms
• A large loft with an additional bed and dedicated office/workspace area

The home comfortably accommodates up to six adults.

There is one full, modern bathroom, recently updated, with a double vanity and simple, clean finishes.

Heat, Comfort, and Connectivity

• Central heating throughout
• Three working fireplaces
• Two wood-burning stoves
• High-speed internet suitable for remote work

This is a true four-season home, with especially strong appeal in spring, summer, and fall, as well as for quiet winter stays.

Outdoors and Setting

The house sits well back from the road, surrounded by forest, stone walls, lawns, and perennial gardens. Wildlife is common. The property is extremely quiet, with very dark skies at night that are excellent for stargazing.

Outdoor seating is available for morning coffee, evening drinks, or simply watching the light change across the fields and trees.

Nearby are:
• Local trails for hiking and exploring
• A water-filled quarry popular for summer swimming
• Damariscotta Lake, just minutes away

Location

The farmhouse is centrally located for exploring Midcoast Maine:
• ~5 minutes to Damariscotta Lake and Jefferson
• ~10 minutes to Waldoboro
• ~20 minutes to Damariscotta
• ~30 minutes to Camden and Wiscasset
• ~45 minutes to Boothbay Harbor and Pemaquid Point Light

You can explore the coast by day and return each evening to privacy and quiet.

Good to Know

• This is a historic farmhouse with original features, including uneven floors, low beams in places, and steep stairs
• The setting is rural and intentionally quiet
• Best suited for guests seeking a relaxed, low-key stay
• Ideal for guests who value history, nature, and calm

Ideal For

Couples, small groups, writers, remote workers, and anyone looking to decompress from city life. Especially appealing for spring and summer visits, fall foliage, and quiet shoulder-season stays.

The property was extremely clean and unbelievably well appointed with amenities and basically everything you would need to have a wonderful stay. Our two dogs were welcome and enjoyed laying by the fireplace and walking down nearby roads that took us to lovely places surrounding the property. The three fireplaces added lots of coziness at night. It all made for a lovely getaway.
