About this property

Midcoast Maine Lakefront Cottage in the Woods

Renovated in 2024, this private getaway offers the best of both Maines: a peaceful wooded lakefront setting with convenient access to the coastal attractions of the Midcoast region. Explore Medomak Pond’s 240 acres with the on-site kayaks, fish from the dock, take a swim, or just sit on the deck and enjoy the views.

With an optimal mix of modern amenities and traditional Maine “camp” design, the cottage has beautiful lake and woodland views from the house, front deck, and screened porch. Added in the last two years: new kitchen, shower, washer/dryer, air conditioning, fiber optic internet wifi, flooring, front door, windows, deck, roof, some furniture, etc. And now featuring a sleeping loft with two twin beds and ship’s ladder access under a 4-1/2' ceiling.

Accommodation for six guests includes: one queen bed in a private bedroom; a twin daybed with a second twin trundle in the second bedroom; two twin beds in the loft; and one full sofa bed in the living room.

Located right at the water's edge on a private dirt drive, Lakeside Cottage amenities include: dock with swim ladder, exclusive use of two kayaks (one single, one tandem), stand-up paddleboard (upon request), deck chairs, picnic table, and propane grill.

Access to the driveway and floating dock is shared between the Lakeside Cottage and the owner’s home, about 300 feet farther up the driveway. These two homes share about twelve acres of woods on a dead-end road, providing peace and privacy.

Idyllic cottage on a lake experience

Pretty much the quintessential Maine lake experience. Humble, but well maintained cottage on a lovely lake, only a 10-15 minute drive from groceries, restaurants, etc. We were just there as a couple, but it would be perfect for a family of 4.

Charming Cottage

The cottage was exactly what we expected: a super cute semi-rustic cottage in the woods. It was perfect for relaxing and enjoying nature. Our teenage boys loved fishing and kayaking. The location felt extremely private. We even saw three otters swimming by one morning while enjoying coffee on the screen porch.

Pure pleasure.

The cottage was fantastic. The kitchen is well equipped. Sitting on the screened in porch was awesome. We saw lots of wildlife and had a juvenile eagle fly by multiple times. It was centrally located for us (we don't mind driving) to the coastal towns. We would highly recommend this lakeside cottage.

1st Maine trip

In one word, tranquility! Amazing property, literally only a few steps to the lake shore. Very peaceful, yet many activities are within a 2 hour and closer drive. Highly recommend staying here. The only drawback is the lack of clothes washer and dryer on site. Its a 15 minute drive to a laundromat in town. Not a big deal or a deal breaker though.

Quiet retreat on the lake

My family and I had a wonderful low tech retreat at Deirdre's lakeside cabin over the week of July 4th (we have T-Mobile which did not have coverage at the cabin). The space was cozy and comfortable for our family of four (two adults and two school aged kids). The pond was so much fun for the kids and adults alike and we took out the kayaks several times over the course of our stay. The location is very secluded but was still convenient to interesting locations including lighthouses, historical sites, and restaurants. I highly recommend staying at this cabin if you're looking for a quiet rustic retreat.

Lakeside Maine cabin

Very nice and comfortable. We are seniors and the very small shower was a bit of a challenge. Den lighting could be better. I would just remove the tv. Even on perfectly clear days the satellite reception would go out. The lake was very quiet during our stay. A nice place to read and unwind

Pretty and Peaceful

The cabin was just right for one or two couples. The view of the pond is beautiful and the area very peaceful. You can hear some traffic from across the pond, but it isn’t annoying. The cabin is well furnished and comfortable. The screened porch overlooking the pond makes it easy to be out doors, but not get bitten by mosquitoes. We spent most of out time there. The area is centrally located along the mid cost and makes it easy to get to the ocean, And all the mid cost cities. We did a lot of exploring. I highly recommend the rental.

Medomak Pond

We had a perfect and restful vacation. We hit the weather just right, and the pond was like glass every evening for moonlit fishing. The cabin is basic but cozy and we were comfortable. Loved the quiet spot and the feeling of having the pond to ourselves. It was a wonderful vacation.

Awesome Property But Read the Listing

Our family spent a week here and absolutely loved this property. The cabin is small, but we were able to make it work for our family of four (2 adults, 17, 14). We considered renting a larger property further from the water, but we absolutely make the right choice. This place is steps from the water, and the pond (lake?) was amazing. It's quiet and was a perfect place for a quiet day in between all the sight seeing we did. Read the contract! This house has no laundry facilities and you must provide all linens and towels. We live on the West coast, and had to scramble a bit to meet this requirement. If you need laundry, there is a great full service laundromat a few miles down the road that turned our items around in just a few hours. There's no internet here, if that's important to you. We brought a hotspot and were able to get an adequate connection for our needs (pro tip: best signal is in the kitchen window). We would absolutely come back to this hidden gem.

Serene retreat

Secluded lakefront cottage. Great fishing from wharf. Enjoyed the Lakeview and beautiful sunsets from screened in porch. Comfortable furniture. Small shower can be challenging. Required to bring own sheets and paper products, but this is made clear ahead of time. Kayak use included in rental. Very quiet. TV came in well, but no internet included. Verizon cell phone reception adequate. Easy drive to many great scenic & historic coastal destinations.

A delightful experience!

Clean, just as listed, the owner really thought of the needs of her guests. Even such things as fans and night-lights were already there. Plenty of cups, silverware, kitchen "stuff". The view was amazing, a nice breeze from the lake, and the screened-in porch was a delight when the mosquitos arrived in the evening. A great week....

Place to unwind

For 2 weeks (August 1-15) we made The Cottage our home. What a wonderful vacation we had. It was a time for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. The little camp is perfect for a small family. It is nestled beautifully in the oak trees and close to the lake. The porch was our favorite spot and we spent a lot of time there. The kitchen was sufficiently appointed and suited our needs. The best part was the lake! We were able to watch the morning awake and the day close out from the porch and it was truly beautiful. My wife was able to fish AND catch from the shore just a few steps away from the camp. The kayaks were great fun. Again, my wife fished her heart out, usually rising and fishing before breakfast and then again in the early evening. Check-in & check-out were seamless and easy. If you are looking for a true Maine camp experience, The Cottage is great! We will be looking to stay again next year!

About the host

Hosted by Deirdre

Host profile image
I purchased this from the long-time original owners, and I'm enjoying improving the property and sharing it with summer visitors to Midcoast Maine.

Why they chose this property

Privacy - on 12 acres, on a private road, with acres of woods between us and the nearest neighbors.
Lakefront - Medomak Pond is the perfect size, big enough to kayak or fish for hours but too small for noisy power boats.
Location - between Boothbay Harbor and Camden, within an easy drive of dozens of great main streets and waterfront attractions.

What makes this property unique

After a day of touring bustling harborfronts, it's so relaxing to drive down our private dead-end road and return to a quiet oasis surrounded by shady woods and wildlife. And the central location is a short drive from all the attractions of Midcoast Maine.
